Close Encounter with a Beginning Professional Teacher

The teacher that I interview as a beginning professional teacher is Mr. Jeffrey R.

Maagma. He is a Science Biology teacher at Aquino National High School, Davao de
Oro Province. I interview him through messenger and according to him he earned his
bachelor’s degree at Compostela Valley State University way back June 14,2018. The
university prepared him to become a good teacher through the collaborative efforts of
his mentors by engaging him various trainings, seminars, and strategies to become
efficient and effective teacher.
He passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers last December 7, 2018 with
the average rate of 82.8%. He started teaching as a professional a month after he
passed the LET. He engaged himself to teach the out of school youth and adult as a
volunteer teacher of Alternative Learning System by then a year and a half after he got
his Plantilla item at Department of Education. What makes him happy as a teacher is
that every time he had his teaching class he felt the eagerness and excitement to teach
toward students who are hungry of knowledge and wisdom. The things that makes him
disappoint as a teacher is that most of his time are drowned with a lot of paper works,
assignments, and designation which supposedly teaching is one of his main priority.
As part of his personal and professional development he had been attended and
participated various activities, trainings and seminars such as Gender and
Development, 21st Century Teachers, Regional Mass Training of Teachers on K-12
Basic Education Curriculum, Last Mile School Open Educational Resources on
Sustainable Development Goals, Adobe Photoshop Essentials and The New Normal
Classroom Modality Teaching. He is a member of Philippine Association for Teacher
Education. As a teacher, he should maintain the nobility and dignity of the teaching
profession. In other words, a teacher must possess the dignity and nobleness image of
a professional teachers. The kind of professional teacher he dreamed to become before
he will retire is to be an emphatic teacher because whether you don’t like the behavior
of your students as long as you put your feet in his/her shoes you will find ways and
know how to tickle and please your students.
Close Encounter with a Young Professional Teacher

The teacher that I interview as a young professional teacher is Mrs. Georgeta D.

Dadula, an English Teacher at Tulalian National High School. She said that she was
more than satisfied with her profession because she could be more of use not just as
classroom teacher but also with other works as well. The things that she does as a
professional teacher that makes her happy is seeing her students achieved their
dreams and chosen career are such a great feeling. This is the essence of her
profession, imparting and molding the minds of learners and help them realize what
their dreams are and guide them in reaching their dreams.
One of the most unforgettable experiences is when her student chatted her once
he graduated high school and thanked her for helping him to read to read and for
treating him well in the class for he was once a non-reader but they worked and
practiced hard during vacant time for him to learn how to read. She believes that as she
grows older and as she serves longer in this field she will eventually seek for a
professional development, and she guess every teacher also seek for promotion. So,
promotion and professional development are her plans and goals for the future. She
loves teaching and helping others, probably she will get old in doing the same thing over
and over until she retires. As she said, she feels satisfied where she was now so she
would say that she will retire as a teacher.

Close Encounter with a Mentor/Master Teacher

The teacher I interviewed as a Mentor/Master teacher is Mrs. Victoria G.

Mondragon, a Master II teacher at Pantaron Elementary School. As a teacher, she was
satisfied with her job as a teacher because she was able to contribute to the personal
and professional growth of her students which gives satisfaction on the part of a
teacher. As a mentor, she was happy to share her learning experiences to her students
which help her students develop and have progress in their individual profession. To be
a mentor, what she does is make her students feel like he is a friend so that they can
express their thoughts freely. She is a kind of a mentor who always encourage and
motivate her mentees, teach them to keep on striving and pursuing life’s challenges.
During her younger years as a professional, she was so thankful that she was
given a chance to work with experienced and dedicated teachers which she considered
also as a mentor because she learned also a lot from them not only in teaching but also
in life’s challenges. During her years, gadgets are not available so she can focus on her
studies unlike today students are easily distracted by the social media and other things.
The award that she received is the Certificate of Commendation in recognition of
untiring dedication and commendable service in PES. Her plan for the future as a
professional teacher is to pursue her doctorate degree. For her, she desires to get a
promotion which she is working hardly for now and she assures that before she retire
she will be promoted into a higher position.
Close Encounter with an Expert /Sterling Teacher

The teacher I interviewed as an Expert/Sterling teacher is Mrs. Marilyn M.

Batucan, a Master Teacher II at Dona Carmen National High School. She is very much
satisfied with her job as a professional teacher especially when she saw her students
before who is now a successful professional in their chosen career. She is very happy
seeing them being successful that she imparted knowledge and learning to that
students. Her unforgettable experience as a professional was when she met her old
student in a mall but she doesn’t recognized her, and her student introduced herself,
hugged her and thanked her for being her teacher that mold her of what she is now.
And Ma’am Marilyn considers that as a significant contribution to her teaching
profession seeing her students successful in their chosen profession. She plans to
apply for principal. Ma’am Marilyn was promoted because she upgraded and finished
her Master’s degree, and because of that she gained a lot of privilege to visit different
schools, more connected to other leaders in education, gained more respect and salary
increase.
Close Encounter with Retired Teacher

The teacher I interviewed as a retired teacher is Mrs. Ma. Nelly T. Quidato, a

retired teacher at Pantaron Elementary School. Her usual activities as a retired teacher
are doing household chores and caring her grandchildren, rendering service to the
church and sometimes participates in community organization. According to her, her
past teaching experience was so memorable and the most significant experience was
when she coached math quiz bee and competed provincial level. She taught as a
professional teacher for 35 years and even once she never had any regrets in her
profession because she was satisfied and happy being a professional teacher. She
loves her profession so much. Her significant contribution in the teaching profession is
imparting and molding the learners into a better person that contributes progress in the
society. She was promoted as a Master Teacher II because of her eagerness to seek
for a professional development and promotion and she benefited a lot especially her
salary also increased. Definitely, she considers teaching to be a great and noblest
profession because being a teacher she learned how to be selfless and ready to go any
extent to help the learners. Her food for thought is a good teacher has been defined as
an individual who can understand those who are very good in explaining, and explain to
those who are no very good in understanding.
Interview of the School Teacher

According to the teacher that I interview, the activities that they conduct to
allow the participation of the people in the barangay is Brigada Eskwela. This allows the
people in the barangay to help the teachers in cleaning and doing repairs in the
classroom. The activities in which teacher join is the celebration of town fiesta and
organizing some events like inter school beauty pageant wherein every school must
have a participant and the learners also are involved in this event. After joining the
activities, the learners learned to reflect from themselves that as a community member
they also play an important role. They learn to participate and help the community by
volunteering into community services when needed. In joining school activities, the
community also benefited from it. It will create oneness and cooperation with each other
which can result to organizing and uplifting the standard of the school, making parents
proud of what they have contributed to the school. As a teacher, she hopes and
encourages her students to transfer their learning to their homes and even in the
community. It is her duty to teach them good values and conducts so that they will
become a good and responsible member of the community.
