 General pattern notes
This pattern contains:
– written step-by-step instructions for crocheting a toy

The finished toy size from the materials recommended

is about 7 inches (18 cm).

Difficulty level – beginner to medium.

The toy is made in one piece. It is crocheted top-down.
Head, body and feet are all one piece. The tail is attached
in the course of crocheting and the wings are attached with
thread jointing.
You must have basic crocheting and amigurumi skills to
be able to follow this pattern..

For owl:
1) White yarn for body ~ 100-130 gr
YarnArt Dolce 741 (120m/100gr, 100% polyester))
2) Textured white yarn for wings and tail edging ~ 5gr
YarnArt Mink 345 (75m/50gr, 100% polyamide)
3) 3.5 mm crochet hook (choose a hook size according to your
crocheting tension and yarn pile)
4) Yellow glittery safety eyes, size 20mm
5) Black threads for the face and body decoration
6) Strong white thread for sculpting
7) Tapestry needle for sculpting, embroidery and thread jointing
8) Toys stuffing (I used ball-fiber polyester)

For scarf: 2.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn over, insert your hook into the following stitch, yarn
over and pull the thread. 3 loops on the hook. Pull through
2 loops. 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over again, grab yarn
and pull through 2 loops. 4 loops on the hook. Repeat the
steps 2 more times. 5 loops on the hook. Pull through 4
loops first, and then work the remaining 2 stitches.
Displacement/shift stitch(es) is used to align the
beginning of a round. Work 1sc additionally at the end of
Displacement/shift
a round and move stitch marker 1 st along your work.

 Wings
Always place stitch marker into the first row/round stitch.
Watch the rounds beginning line, it traces the top of the wing. In
case of notable rounds beginning shift, work shift stitches (see
Abbreviations).
My rounds beginning moved just a bit, so I didn’t use displacement
stitches.
Decreases line traces the bottom of the wing.
Decreases in the pattern: you are free to choose between regular
or invisible decreases (see Abbreviations).

Crochet wings spirally, make 2.

Leave the pieces hollow.

 Wings
Crochet across the bottom of the wing with textured yarn along
the decreases line:

Sl st, (5ch, 1sc)*4, 3ch, 1sl st – cut yarn and weave in the tails.

You can add some other edging – at your discretion.

Embroider short black stitches over the wings to imitate feathers.

It is easier to work over both wing sides pricking the wing through.
This way the wing will keep flat shape as well.

 Tail
Crochet the tail in white spirally, do not stuff.

1) Chain 16, join the chain into a ring with 1sl st,

5) Fold the tail in half, check the symmetry. Correct the rounds
beginning with 1sc shift stitch if necessary.

Cut yarn, fasten off and weave in.

Crochet across the last row with textured yarn:

Install safety eyes (20 mm) in round.

Since the eyes posts are quite thick,
you need to be careful and expand the
attachment points prior to inserting

 Wings thread jointing
Use strong non-slip white thread for thread jointing. You can
thread a needle with 4 strands at once.

Mark the wings attachment points: 2 points in round 23 at the

sides, 24sts apart across the chest.
- Insert your needle at the back of the neck in the middle and
extract it at one wing attachment point. Go through the wing at
the level of round 3, grabbing 1-2 stitches. Now insert your
needle into the same side point and go through the body coming
out at the opposite side – point 2.
- Sew through the second wing and go through the body again.
Repeat 2-3 rounds like that, pulling on the thread slightly to
draw wings closer to the body.

PLEASE NOTE: you should insert and extract the needle right in
and out of the wings attachment points. It is a key thing for the
wings to be movable. To finish send your needle to the initial
inserting point at the back of the neck, snip off yarn, pull on the
thread ends, tie them and weave in.

The thread jointing on the owl is done in the same way.

 Decoration
Do the eyes needle sculpting using strong thread matching the
body color.
- Insert your needle at the back of the neck in the middle. Do eyes
needle sculpting along the eyes inner corners – 2 rounds.
- Send your needle to the initial inserting point, pull on
thread ends carefully to deepen the eyes. Fasten off
and weave in.

Optionally you can additionally highlight the cheeks: sculpt
separately going through each cheek from an eye towards below the
head.

Embroider eyelids: 2-3 stitches with white plush yarn and 1 line
in black for lashes. Embroider a beak in black.

As for location, refer to your own taste, or my photos. You can use
anu textured yarn for eyelids.
Embroider short black stitches over the head and back to imitate
feathers. 14

 Scarf
Crochet the scarf in the round, alternating colors each 2 rounds.
Begin working in red.

1) Chain 11, join in the round with a sl st. chain 3 for turning and
work 10dc across the chain, finish the round with 1sl st to the
3rd chain st you worked at the beginning (11) – 3 turning chains
are counted as the 1st stitch in a round.
2) 3ch, 10dc, 1sl st (11) Yarn color change

3) Switch to yellow
yarn:
3ch, 10dc, 1sl st (11)

Continue crocheting in the same way until you reach the required
scarf length. I worked 30 rounds.
Finish crocheting the scarf with a round in red. Make a loop at the
end of the scarf - 7ch, join its end to the beginning of the round.
Cut yarn and fasten off.

You can use any other yarn for the scarf. You can make it wider or
narrower, chaining more or fewer number of stitches initially.
