Safety
Course Project Model for Improvement
Competency Systems Design and Management Outcome

For this project, I examined the Model for Improvement which is a systematic framework used in

healthcare in healthcare quality initiatives. This tool is used to help design, manage, and evaluate

healthcare systems or processes in a way that requires constant revaluation and improvement. When

evaluating the model in the context of healthcare systems or processes, it examines patient care,

administrative functions, and data management within the structure of quality improvement. Some

projects in healthcare must be reconsidered with what we are trying to accomplish and how a change

would specifically cause an improvement.

As part of my examination of the model, I devised a hypothetical clinical decision support tool

that could be integrated into a clinical workflow in a way that enhanced patient outcomes. This effort

would contribute to overall quality improvement, as measured by an increase in foot exams on diabetic

patients. This required an interdisciplinary approach that gathered valuable input from various

stakeholders involved in the process. Overall, the Model for Improvement takes healthcare challenges and

helps develop innovative solutions. By allowing me to identify a quality improvement tool, understand

how it works, and propose a project utilizing its potential, the project facilitated my satisfaction of the

Systems Design and Management Competency.
