GEC 17 – STS
Activity #3
(Intellectual Revolution: Science and Technology)
Reflective Questions
1. How did society shape science and did science shape society? 5 points
Society shapes science in many good ways by providing the funding, setting priorities,
creating needs, and influencing values. And in return science has shaped society by
advancing the knowledge of people, solving problems, developing technologies, and
informing policies.
3. Why did the people accept these new discoveries despite being contradictory to what was
widely accepted at that time? 5 points
People accept the new discoveries because they use it as their evidence, authorities in
their field who have credibility and influence only, these factors are one of the reasons why
people accept the new discoveries even if they contradict what was widely accepted before.
Somehow there are some people who’s not easily accept the new discoveries for some reason
such as Biases that prevent them from accepting new information that challenges their
existing beliefs or preference, second fear of the consequences or implication of new
discoveries.
