1. How did society shape science and did science shape society? 5 points
Society shapes science in many good ways by providing the funding, setting priorities,
creating needs, and influencing values. And in return science has shaped society by
advancing the knowledge of people, solving problems, developing technologies, and
informing policies.

2. Why do you think most intellectual ideas are controversial? 5 points


Most of the intellectual ideas are controversial because they challenge the existing
beliefs, values, and interests of the society. Furthermore, intellectual ideas also have
implications for social, political, economic, or ethical issues that can affect people's lives.

3. Why did the people accept these new discoveries despite being contradictory to what was
widely accepted at that time? 5 points
People accept the new discoveries because they use it as their evidence, authorities in
their field who have credibility and influence only, these factors are one of the reasons why
people accept the new discoveries even if they contradict what was widely accepted before.
Somehow there are some people who’s not easily accept the new discoveries for some reason
such as Biases that prevent them from accepting new information that challenges their
existing beliefs or preference, second fear of the consequences or implication of new
discoveries.

4. In general, how will you define intellectual revolution? 5 points


An intellectual revolution is a major change in the way people think about a certain to
topic ir field of the study, It usually involves new discoveries, theories, or perspectives that
challenge the existing knowledge, beliefs, or values of the society, further intellectual
revolutions also lead the advancement of science, technology, culture, and society.

5. How do intellectual revolutions transform societies? 5 points


The intellectual revolutions transform societies by introducing new ideas, theories, or
perspectives that challenge the existing knowledge, beliefs, or values of the society. The
intellectual revolutions also stimulate further research, innovation, and discovery in their
respective fields. Intellectual revolutions often lead also to the advancement of science,
technology, culture, and society.

Activity 3. Freestyle Group Presentation (100 points)

Direction. Each group will be randomly assigned a key figure in the scientific revolution as
follows:

b. Galileo Galilei f. Isaac Newton
c. Paracelsus g. William Harvey
d. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek h. Charles Darwin

Given sufficient time, the groups will prepare for an eight to ten minute freestyle group
presentation on the contribution of the key figure of the scientific revolution assigned. Freestyle
means the group may use any flatform, audio-visual materials, and manner of execution. In
preparing for the presentation, the following questions will be used as guide:
1. What is the key figures and what is the scientific revolution they were involved in?
2. What is the key figure’s contribution in the scientific revolution all about?
3. How did the key figure’s contribution advance modern science and scientific thinking
during their time?
4. What were the controversies and challenges faced by the key figure?
5. How has the contribution of the key figure impacted society in general? What are the
practical applications today of the key figure’s contribution to science?

The presentations will be graded based on this rubric in preparing the presentation.
