Activity Graph-Analysis…
Ask: What have you observed on the graph?

Allow learners to discuss the graph.

Analysis
Guide Questions:
1. How will we be able to sketch the graph of a rational function?
2. How are we going to use the x and y-intercepts of the function?
3. What other things do we need to observe when graphing functions?

Abstraction
In sketching the graph of a rational function, we will make use of the x and y-
intercepts of the function. In addition, we will observe how the function behave
near the values the function in undefined, as well as in the extreme values of x.

The numerator x-2 will be zero at x = 2. Therefore x = 2 is zero of f(x0. Since it

is a real zero, it is also an x-intercept.

−2
The y-intercept of a function is equal to f(0) = =−1.
2
Application
Sketch the Graph!
2
3 x −8 x −3
1. (x) = 2 then find its domain and range.
2 x +7 x−4 ,

IV- EVALUATION:
You Can Do It!
Sketch the graph of the following rational functions. Identify the x and y-intercepts, the asymptotes.
2
2 x +3 x −x+6
1. f(x) = 2. f(x) =
4 x−7 2
x −6 x+ 8

V- ASSIGNMENT:

In your notebooks, research and give at least 2 examples of word-problems with answer as applications in
solving rational equations.
a. Problems involving work
b. Motion problem
