LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 11

(General Mathematics)
(January 10-13, 2023)

A. Content Standard: The learner. . .

1. Demonstrates understanding of key concepts of functions.

B. Performance Standard: The learner. . .

1. Is able to accurately construct mathematical models to represent real-life situations using functions.

C. Learning Competencies: The learner. . .

1. Determines the intercepts, zeroes, and asymptotes of rational function. (M11GM-lc-5)

I- OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, majority of the students are expected to:

1. Recall the meaning of intercepts, zeroes, and asymptotes;

2. Solve for the intercepts, zeroes, and asymptotes of rational functions.
3. Develops perseverance in solving for the intercepts, zeroes, and asymptotes of rational functions.

Activity Real-Life Solver…

In an inter-barangay basketball league, the team from Barangay Nabago has
won 12 out of 25 games, a winning percentage of 48%. How many games
should they win in a row to improve their win percentage to 60%? What will be
their winning percentage if they win? 10 games in a row? 15? 20? 30 ? 50? 100
games?
Analysis
Guide Questions:
1. How were you able to make a function that represents the above
problem?
2. What concepts are being used in answering the real-life problem?
Abstraction

A simple rational function is presented. Emphasize that:

a. The domain of a RATIONAL function is the set of all values that the variable
can take. In other words, a set of real numbers except for the x-values which
will make q(x) = 0.
b. The range of a RATIONAL function is the set of all values that f(x) can take.
Note: Except for the values of x that would make the function undefined.

Let us also take a look at how the function behaves as x increases or decreases without
bound. We first construct a table of values for f(x) as x increases without bound.

After plotting the points corresponding to these values on the Cartesian plane, we have this
graph.
Application
How are They Related?
Relate the knowledge in finding the domain and range of functions to the saying
that goes “Reap what you sow.”

IV- EVALUATION:
You Can Do It!
Board work.
Find the domain of each rational function.
1 2 x +3
a. f(x) = b. f(x) = 2
x+2 x −4

V- ASSIGNMENT:
Find the domain, range, intercepts, zeroes, and asymptotes of the given rational functions:

2 x +1
1. f(x) =
3x

x−3
2. f(x) =
x+ 1

3 x +4
3. f(x) = 2
3 x +3 x+ 1
