WORLD ISSUES – REAL HPCL TASK

Situation-
“You all are 8 political world leaders. There is a meeting of UN going on.
Prioritize the following world issues:
 food
 water
 climate change and pollution
 peace and security
 violence against women”

Solution-
Understand the question- As there are 8 political leaders from various parts of the
world, that is why it should be kept in mind that everyone will have different
concerns according to the country they represent. For example, a leader from India
will prioritize poverty and food to be tackled first, but for a representative from USA
that might not be a major concern. He might want to prioritise terrorism or maybe
climate change.
In order to prioritise the tasks correctly, you should divide them in two categories-
tasks that need immediate action and may be more pressing in nature and those that
are to be resolved on long term basis. Also, since it is the meeting of global leaders,
so discussion must be about the large global issues rather than the regional or local
issues. We also need to consider developing and developed parts of the globe.
Food and water are basic human necessities. These are issues that are humanitarian.
If they are not addressed, they will harm people right now, not only in the long run.
Thus, these need to be prioritised by the global leaders. The other tasks will need a
long time to tackle, thus they can be pushed back a little.

The order of priority will be as follows-
1. Food and Water - Access to food and water are basic human needs and
fundamental human rights. These are humanitarian issues related to survival
and life of people hence require immediate attention. Ensuring that everyone
has access to sufficient, nutritious, and safe food and water is critical to
promoting public health, reducing poverty, and fostering economic growth.

2. Climate change and Pollution - Climate change and pollution are global
challenges that have far-reaching consequences for the environment, planet
earth and human well-being. Addressing these issues requires reducing
greenhouse gas emissions, promoting clean technologies, and regulating
harmful chemicals. These issues are urgent and require immediate attention.

3. Peace and Security - Political instability, terrorism, and armed conflicts are
among the threats to global peace and security. These challenges have far-
reaching consequences that affect not only the countries directly involved but
also the international community as a whole. Promoting peaceful and stable
societies requires addressing root causes of conflict, promoting dialogue and
reconciliation, and strengthening institutions that uphold the rule of law.

4. Violence Against Women - Violence against women is a pervasive and

systemic problem that affects millions of women around the world. It includes
physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, as well as harmful practices such as
female genital mutilation and forced marriage. Addressing this issue requires
changing societal attitudes towards women, strengthening legal protections,
and empowering women to participate fully in society.

In conclusion, as world leaders, it is crucial to prioritize the most pressing global

issues. Food and water are humanitarian issues that require immediate attention,
followed by climate change and pollution.
While peace and security, as well as violence against women, are important issues,
they may require a longer time frame to address. It is essential to work
collaboratively to address these issues effectively and ensure a sustainable future for
all.
