through Jesus
–It is our friendship with Christ and through Christ
with the Father, in their Holy Spirit.
–Through Christ's witness to his father in his
teaching, preaching, miracles, and specially in his
Passion, Death and Resurrection, we come to
believe in Christ our Savior, in the Father, and in
the Holy Spirit sent into our hearts.
LOVING MATURING AND MISSIONARY

ECUMENISM
–It is the beliefs, principles, or practices of those
who desire and work for world-wide unity and
cooperation among all Christian churches.
THE EARLY MEANING OF ECUMENISM
–From the greek word “oikoumene” meaning “the
whole inhabited world” is the promotion of
cooperation and unity among Christians
–Jesus Christ founded one church and in the midst
of his Passion prayed “that they may all be one”
(John 17:21)
OIKOS –House, Family, People, or Nation
OIKEO –Live or Dwell
OIKOUMENE –The whole inhabited (Greek)
OIKOUMENIKOS –Open to or participating in the
whole world
–The term was first used by HERODOTUS.
–For the Romans, the term was equated to Roman
Empire.
–For the Greeks, it describes the Greek World.
–Herodotus is most well known for his historical
accounts. He is remembered as being arguably the
very first historian ever.

IN THE NEW TESTAMENT WRITINGS
–Jesus call for unity among us because He loves us
all.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
–From the word " missio " means TO SEND
FORTH and denotes the responsibility of the
Church to go into the entire inhabited world, to
witness to its faith in Jesus Christ. Thus, missionary
activity is likewise an expression of ecumenical
concern.

ecumenism has something in common
–The term used might be different, but the essence
will not go further especially when talking of unity
and harmony in a certain place or oikos.
