Electric Vehicle - Introduction
• Auxiliary Battery: Each electric car needs the auxiliary battery.
• Charge port: The charge port serves the electric car to connect to an external power supply.
• DC/DC Converter: Used for converting higher-voltage DC power from the traction battery pack to
the lower-voltage DC power.
• Electric traction motor – is a motor that drives the car`s wheels. Some traction motor can perform
both function such as drive and regeneration.
• Onboard charger serves for converting incoming AC electricity to DC power for charging the
traction battery.
• Power electronics unit is a controller manages the flow of electrical energy delivered by the
traction battery.
• Cooling system maintains a normal operating temperature range of the engine, electric motor,
power electronics, and other components of electric car.
• Traction battery pack is the same battery that stores electricity and transfer it to electric traction
motor using.
• Transmission of electric car transfers mechanical power from the electric traction
motor to drive the wheels.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle - Introduction
I C Engines
Hybrid Electric Vehicle – Key Features
• Employ regenerative braking to recover energy that is thrown away
• Downsize or “right-size” the engine or primary power source
• Control the engine or primary power source to operate more efficiently and/or work more
often in a more efficient range
• Other vehicle modifications like aerodynamic improvements, low rolling resistance of tires
further improve the efficiency.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle – Different Modes
EV Mode
The front and rear motors drive the vehicle
using electricity from the drive battery.
When driving at medium- to low-speeds,
the Hybrid EV System stays in EV Mode,
driving the vehicle through its electric
motors using electricity from the drive
battery.
I C Engines
Hybrid Electric Vehicle – Different Modes
Parallel Hybrid Mode
The car is driven by its motors and by the
engine at higher vehicle speeds where the
engine offers better efficiency.
The Hybrid EV System optimally controls each of the driving modes so it provides the
versatility to drive as a 100% electric vehicle, use the engine to charge the drive battery,
or drive using the motors and the engine at the same time, based on driving conditions.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle – Different Modes
Series/Parallel Hybrid Mode
The series/parallel hybrid combines the
series hybrid system with the parallel
hybrid system in order to maximize the
benefits of both the systems.
