TEACHER’S NOTES

Before applying the assessments, gather the following items:


✓ a copy of the assessment for each child
✓ a box of crayons in a variety of colors
✓ a pencil, an eraser, and a pen
✓ a ball (for Assessment 7)
✓ a list of the children to be assessed

While completing the assessments, follow these steps:


• Separate the children into small groups.
• Provide the children with safe activities, such as playing with play dough or plastic blocks.
• Play the Bebop and Friends Storysong from the unit you are assessing.
• Sit at a table or desk with an extra chair for the child that is being assessed.
• Invite the first child on the list to sit next to you at the table or desk.
• Ask the child to complete the following tasks according to the unit being assessed.

After assessing each child, complete the following tasks:


• Congratulate the child’s effort.
• Put a stamp or sticker on the copy of the assessment to encourage the child’s progress.
• Add suggestions for practicing or developing a skill in the “Next steps” column.
• Keep the assessment in a portfolio as evidence of the child’s progress in each unit and to refer to when
planning lessons.
