Hello, on today´s presentation we’re going to talk about someone we look up to, someone who

despite all the challenges and barriers never gave up and never stopped standing up for his ideals.
Today we’re going to talk about Lewis Hamilton.

So, who´s Lewis Hamilton? (pomos o vídeo)

Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton was born into a mixed-race family on January 7th, 1985, in England.

Statistically the most successful Formula 1 driver of all-time, Lewis Hamilton is the first – and to date
only – black driver to compete in F1. He owns the F1 record for career race victories, 103 to be
precise, 104 pole positions, 197 podium appearances, 65 fastest laps, 5455 laps led, and tied with
Michael Shumacher, Hamilton has 7 world titles to his name.

Hamilton started his karting career with a borrowed suit and shoes and a well-used go-kart that
costed nearly as much as the family's modest monthly income. His father, Anthony Hamilton had to
work day and night for years to further his son's racing career. Despite the difficulties, all the sweat
and hard work were paid off as he conquers eight karting championships, three major single seater
titles and finally a seat in Formula one in 2007. The rest is history!

In 2009 he became an MBE (Member of the British Empire) and in 2021 he received his knighthood,
and the personal title of “Sir”.

Beyond excelling in his risky profession Hamilton continued to develop himself personally, furthering
his interests in fashion and music, as well as exposing his social conscience. Using his high profile,
communicating directly via social media to many millions of followers worldwide, he supports such
worthy causes as human rights, animal’s and children’s welfare, environmental sustainability,
disaster relief and especially racial equality and diversity.

Hamilton has always shown his support for the Black Lives Matter movement, from trying to educate
his fans to participating in BLM protests.

As the first and only Formula One’s Black driver, it saddened him watching the inequalities prevalent
in the racing industry. So, he launched his own foundation in an effort to increase diversity in
motorsport, Mission 44. This initiative aim is to help underprivileged young Brits, but also to build a
more inclusive educational system, open doors within STEM and the creative industry and to
empower young people to become an influential force for change. This charitable foundation is
guided by 5 values:

• We are brave
• We are collaborative
• We are curious
• We are inclusive
• We act with integrity

Having the necessity to do something with the influence he had on the paddock, Lewis Hamilton he
started wearing meaningful t-shirts about racism and homophobia in driver’s parades, pre-race
rituals and even on podiums, and he also started wearing customized helmets, here we have some
examples.

This were some of the various actions Lewis Hamilton took on behalf of the protection of the human
rights.
We hope you guys feel as much inspired as us by Sir Lewis Hamilton, we also hope you’re inspired
for the quiz that is coming your way, prepare your mobile phones.
