Starter Unit: Last Summer

I went to Scotland last summer with my parents.

We travelled by train. We stayed in Edinburgh. I went
sightseeing every day. One day, I visited a castle.
I watched knights have a sword fight! It was amazing.
I bought some souvenirs for my friends.

Module 1: My School

Mark

I usually go to school on foot. Our first class is at 8:50

and our last lesson is at 3:20, but I usually stay after
school and play sport or do drama. I love my after-school
activities! My favourite lesson is Maths. I like numbers a
lot! My school is small so lunchtime isn’t busy and there’s
normally extra dessert! On Thursday afternoons, I have
Geography with my favourite teacher, Mrs Gallen. She
brings things from all over the world to show us. I love
my school!

Jeff
I go to school in a big city. My sister and I go by car and we
are usually there by 9:00. I have 5 lessons every day and a
lunchbreak. On Tuesdays, at 9:00 I have a History lesson,
with Mr Davis. We do a lot of projects in his class and he
puts all of them on the walls. I like Science the most because
we do experiments. For lunch I usually have my mum’s tasty
sandwiches and then I play football. I like all my teachers,
but my English teacher, Mr Tims, is my favourite because he
helps me when I don’t understand something.

Jeremy

I live in a small town by the sea. When I walk to school in

winter it’s quiet, but in summer it’s really busy! My school
day starts at 8:45 and finishes at 3:15. Sometimes I go to
school at 8:15 and have breakfast in the canteen. I like
Mondays because I have ICT. I really enjoy learning about
computers and how to use them. Our ICT room is next to
the canteen which means we get there first for lunch. This
year, we’ve got a new Art teacher. His name is Mr Waters
and he also coaches the football team. He’s very nice and I
like him a lot.

Sepak takraw, or kick volleyball, is a popular
team sport in Southeast Asia. Players mustn’t
use their hands, but they can use their feet,
knees and chest to get the ball over the net. The
court is similar in size to a badminton court.
When teams score 21 points, they win a set. When
a team wins two sets, this team wins the game.
There are three people in each team and they can
touch the ball up to three times before returning it. The sport has been in the Asian games
since 1990 and Thailand has won the most medals.
