PART 1
INTRODUCTION
This course will be divided into three modules: Language, Culture and Work. Each module will allow
the students to discover elements of European culture and will give them tools to understand and
to adapt themselves to international intercourse in the workplace.

COURSE OBJECTIVES (CO)


1. LANGUAGE: Basic proficiency with the French language
2. CULTURE: Fundamental application of cross-cultural sensitivities
3. WORK: Negotiating unfamiliarity in the workplace.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)


By virtue of the learning gained in this course, the student should be able to:
CLO 1 use French to introduce themselves, ask simple questions and arrange meetings. (PLG 1)
CLO 2 increase their knowledge about French culture and gained cultural sensitivity. (PLG 1)
CLO 3 understand the Indian and European business culture and have tools for appropriate
intercultural practices in the business field. (PLG 2)

COURSE CONTENT
 Students will learn how to introduce themselves and how to ask basic questions in French. They
will learn the most common expressions used to “survive” in France. (How to ask direction, how
to order at a restaurant, how to ask for information, etc) and how to arrange a meeting.
 Students will be initiated to French literature and French cinema which are business related.
They will also discover several cultural differences that exist between some European countries
and India and discuss stereotypes linked to different societies and communities.
 Students will discover European business etiquette and will compare it with the Indian one. They
will talk about the do’s and don’t at work. This session will also cover the basics of what
constitutes a negotiation and some practical advice on how to handle cross-cultural negotiation
challenges. The students will engage in practical dialogue around specific intercultural
communication issues and situations, and will identify and develop tools for appropriate
intercultural practices. They will discover new competences necessary for working at the
crossroads of cultures and in diverse environments.
