PART 1

INTRODUCTION

In today’s VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world, skills that are vital today are
no longer relevant tomorrow. The Fourth Industrial Revolution has introduced us to advanced
robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning. All these changes and automations are rapidly
transforming the ways we live and work. In order to remain competitive, companies need
managers who can assimilate and assess huge amounts of data, analyze it, find linkages between
the various threads of information, make sense through sound logical reasoning and arrive at
creative solutions. This, in short is critical thinking and the course Managerial Communication
focuses on honing students’ critical thinking skills through analyzing issues and arguments.

The course Managerial Communication - 1 is intended to help students develop and improve both
their oral and written communication skills. This is achieved by encouraging them to give attention
to details, present the message logically and clearly, to effectively carry out the intended
communication.
COURSE OBJECTIVES (CO)

‘Managerial Communication 1’ aims to:

1. Develop steps and systems amongst students to logically represent an idea;


2. Hone the ability to assimilate and present multiple views on the same topic;
3. Strengthen students’ ideas through logical arguments;
4. Prioritize the points to be stated in response to the idea or context presented by others
5. Counter ideas presented by others through logical arguments;

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)


By virtue of the learning gained in this course, the student should be able to:
CLO 1: Use appropriate communication strategies to address the needs of various
stakeholders. (PLG 2)

CLO 2: Apply analytical skills during Oral & Written communication in formal situation (PLG 4)
CLO 3: Deliver information in a proficient and audible manner through oral presentations
(PLG 4)

The course content will cover the following broad areas:
 Effective communication strategy
 Analyzing issues and arguments
 Oral Presentation
