1. Look for Fibonacci numbers available in your locality in fruits, vegetables, flowers, or plants.

Write a report about your obtained results.


Fibonacci numbers can be found in fruits like the pineapple by examining the spiral
patterns seen in the surface of the pineapple. The ‘scales’ of the pineapple are arranged in a
spiral pattern. If we count the number of spirals in one direction, it will produce a sum of 8
spirals in one direction and 13 spirals in another direction. Both 8 and 13 are Fibonacci
numbers.
In relation, the golden ratio (1.16803) is known to be found in many things in nature
including pineapples. Most Fibonacci numbers like 8 and 13 found in pineapples approximate
the golden ratio. In this case, 13/8 = 1.625 which is close to the golden ratio.

2. Discuss the origin of the Fibonacci numbers.


Fibonacci numbers are named after its originator, Leonardo of Pisa also known as Fibonacci. In
his book ‘Liber Abaci’, he posed a problem involving rabbits. The rabbits’ population growth
over each month follows the Fibonacci sequence.
In the Fibonacci sequence, each Fibonacci number is a sum of the two previous numbers.
Starting with 0 and 1, the sequence extends infinitely. The Fibonacci sequence is as follows:
0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, …
As we can see, adding 21 and 34 produces the next term which is 55. Likewise, to find the next
term after 55, we’ll have to add 34 and 55. Therefore, the next term is 89.

or structures. An example would be the presence of the golden ratio in most of our things.

the world around us. It is used to quantify and measure things and to analyze concepts,
patterns, and structures.

Mathematics is a systematic knowledge which has many uses to it. It deals with the
study of numbers, patterns, structures, and relationships. It involves problem solving,
logical reasoning, and development of precise methods.
d. How is mathematics done?
Mathematics is done with the use of numbers and methods. It also involves using
logical reasoning in doing, analyzing, and developing these mathematical concepts.
e. Who uses mathematics?
Mathematics provides a framework for understanding the world around us. Therefore,
all people use mathematics. From basic mathematical operations to complex concepts of
calculus, geometry, algebra, etc.
f. Why is mathematics important to know/learn?
We need mathematics so that we can understand and participate in the world we live in.
Mathematics can help us develop practical skills that we need to participate in our community.
Furthermore, more complex concepts greatly contributes to our advancement.
