Nowadays, more people are choosing to socialize online rather than face-to-
face. Is this a positive or negative development?

In present-day society, as revolutionary technological advancements have

been made, more individuals opt for virtual conversations rather than direct
ones. From my perspective, I strongly advocate that the demerits of this
trend certainly outweigh its merits due to the following reasons.

First of all, this would pose several health problems. To be more specific,
as online socializing requires hardly any physical movements, people generally
maintain a sedentary lifestyle which in the long run will cause obesity or even
heart attacks. Also harmful blue light from electronic devices is capable of
leading to eye strain, headaches, or short-sightedness.

Secondly, this tendency can diminish people’s social skills as well. Because
of the wonderfully attractive convenience of online chatting in exchanging
messages, ones neglect real-life communication. They no longer pay
meticulous attention to discussing problems directly

with collegues or hanging out with friends which undoubtedly results in a

degradation of social etiquette and rifts in personal relationships.

Thirdly, communication technology can make people become victims of

identity theft since there are an increasing number of cybercriminals who
approach them on social media for nefarious purposes. For example,
according to a recent article in a Vietnamese national newspaper, some
anonymous accounts on a social medium so-called Twitter has tried to
socialize with users in the guise of upright citizens and later stolen all their
personal information for financial fraud

In conclusion, I am firmly convinced that the utilization of technology in

communication has exerted significant deleterious influences on individuals.
They, therefore, should bear all these in mind so as to avoid potential
dangers.
