 INTRODUCTION
•Portfolio Assessment- Is one of the authentic and
non-traditional assessment tools in education.
•The use of the portfolio assessment is a response to
the glowing clamor for more authentic means of
assessing students growth and developing in school.
•(ETEEAP) Expand Tertiary Education Equivalency
and Accreditation Program - Is one example of a
program that calls for a comprehensive educational
assessment program.
MEANING OF PORTFOLIO
What is Portfolio?
•The word "Portfolio" comes from portare (carry) and
foglio (sheet of papers).
•It is a "systematic" and organize collection of a students
work that demonstrate the students skills and
accomplishments.
•Portfolio is not a mese collection or compilation of a
students work.
•Paulson, et Al(1991) emphasized that it is a purposeful
collection of a student work that exhibit the students
effort.
 WHAT A PORTFOLIO INCLUDES

It includes different types of work

such;
*Writing samples PORTFOLIO can be collected on
*art and interview etc. paper, in photograph and on
*Journal entries audiotape, videotape, computer
*Videotapes disk.
*Teacher comments
*Posters
 EVIDENCE OF LEARNING CAN BE PUT IN
STUDENT PORTFOLIOS

ARTIFACTS - Are documents ATTESTATION - The teacher

students progress in meeting
learning targets.
BEST-WORK PORTFOLIO -Is also
known as showcase portfolio or
display portfolio, presents the
students most outstanding works.
-Showcase portfolio very useful
for parent-teacher conference,
students future teachers.
 STAGES IN IMPLEMENTING PORTFOLIO
ASSESSMENT EFFECTIVELY

Navarro, et Al(2013) enumerate the following stages in the

implementation of portfolio assessment in the classroom.

Stages 1: Identifying learning outcomes to assess through

portfolio.
Stages 2: Introducing the idea of portfolio assessment to your
class.
Stages 3: Specification of Portfolio Content
Stages 4; Giving clear and detailed guidelines for portfolio
presentation.

Stages 5; Informing key school officials, parents and other

stakeholders.
