program began.
President Sheri introduced our program and
speaker. Alpha Tau member Jill Spann shared her
role as liaison for the Neighborhood Bridges
Program and how and why the program was
introduced to the Winfield School District and
surrounding community.

Suggestions of various ways in which Alpha Tau

could contribute to this worthwhile program were
discussed.

Jill thanked members for the generous

contributions already made to Neighborhood
Bridges and shared how they had been used.

At the August 2023 meeting Alpha Tau voted to

adopt Neighborhood Bridges as one of the
chapter’s projects and pledged to support this
chapter project through donations of time,
money, and needed materials.
The business meeting began with the “Call to order” by President Sheri White.

reimbursement receipts that had not been submitted.

during American Education Week in November) reported
that with the donations from Walmart and other businesses,
the chapter did not have any receipts to submit.

Peggy then presented the financial status report.

The financial report will be filed.
Voluntary member donations were accepted to support the DKG World Fellowship Fund and the
Alabama State Organization Partner Project Autism Support of Alabama for 2023-2025.

Voting could be done online by email or text. Several names were mentioned.
More information will be sent to members.
The Moment of Reorientation by President Sheri reminded members of the history of Alabama State
Organization’s founding on Dec. 19, 1931. Happy 92nd birthday Alabama State!

Then President Sheri shared the actions of the chapter founders that allowed Alpha Tau Chapter to be
formed seventy-one years ago on January 17, 1953.

The following information was found in the History of Alpha Tau Chapter Beta State compiled and
narrated by Alpha Tau’s first chapter president, Miss Edith Egan.

When the time came to start the initiation, the organizing group realized that the required
number of members for a chapter were not present. Edith Egan slipped out and drove to
Guin where she found Eunice Weeks trying to arrange a way to get to the meeting.
They arrived “a bit late” without reprimand.

The seven new members were Mrs. Eunice Weeks, Miss Effie Mae Logan from Guin,
Mrs. Gladys Jennings, Mrs. Lorene Yarborough from Hamilton, Mrs. Louise Harris,
Mrs. Jewel Baccus from Winfield, and Miss Elois Phillips from Bear Creek, who was
unable to attend due to a broken hip. She was initiated later as a charter member.

Happy 71st Birthday Alpha Tau Chapter!
