16
NORMAL TAKEOFF 2.31.1
TOGA Functions during Takeoff:
 < 50 KIAS pushing TO/GA activates Autothrottle in Thrust Reference
(THR REF) Mode:
 Thrust Levers advance to selected Thrust Limit;
 If Autothrottle is NOT Active by 50 kt it CANNOT be activated until
400 ft.
 At 80 kt the Autothrottle Mode Annunciation changes to HOLD;
 Above 80 kt pushing TO/GA disarms LNAV and VNAV.
At Liftoff:
 Pitch Command Target Speed = V2 + 15:
 If current Speed remains above V2 + 15 for longer than 5 seconds
Target Speed resets to the Current Speed.
 Engine Failure on the Ground Pitch Command Target Speed at Liftoff =
V2 or Airspeed at Liftoff, whichever is greater;
 The Roll Command maintains ground track.
After Liftoff:
 Existing speed if airspeed is between V2 and V2 + 15;
 V2 + 15 if airspeed is above V2 + 15;
 If a TO/GA Switch is pushed:
 Removes Takeoff & Climb Derates, & Assumed Temperature Thrust
Reduction;
 Autothrottle in HOLD the Autothrottle activates in THR REF.

17
18 18

 At 50 ft RA LNAV engages, if Armed. Roll commands Bank to track the

Active Route;
 At 400 ft VNAV activates, when Armed. Pitch commands the current
Airspeed. The Autothrottle sets the selected Reference Thrust and
annunciates THR REF;
 At Acceleration Height or Altitude Capture Pitch commands speed to 5 kt
below Takeoff Flap Placard Speed:
 As Flaps are retracted Pitch commands an acceleration to 5 kt below
the Placard Speed of the Commanded Flap position.
 When Flaps are UP Pitch commands an acceleration to VNAV Climb
Speed. VNAV Climb Speed is the greater of:
 VREF + 80 kt; or
 Speed Transition associated with Origin Airport.
 At Thrust Reduction Point the FMC changes the Thrust Limit to the
Armed Climb Limit (CLB, CLB 1, or CLB 2).
 TO/GA Mode is terminated by selecting any other Pitch and Roll Mode
automatic LNAV/VNAV engagement terminates TO/GA Mode.

PRE-DESCENT AND DESCENT PROCEDURES

2.23
An aircraft must NOT descend below the appropriate Safety Altitude, except:
1. By using an approved Instrument Approach Procedure; or
2. When under Positive Radar Control and the Aircraft Commander is
satisfied with the Flight Profile; or
3. When in Continuing Visual Contact with the Ground and able to
ensure adequate Clearance from all Obstacles affecting the intended
Flight Path.

SETTING QNH 2.24

4. Audio Tuning is required if Identifier does NOT display correctly, as
expected;
5. Decoding applies to VOR, ILS, DME and ADF.

APPROACH PROCEDURE 2.25

 Where possible, 1 pilot has WX and the other TERR. Allows activation of the RAAS
Alerts. If both crew have WX (due T/S) the Visual Element of RAAS Alerts will be
suppressed.
 Complete the Approach Procedure before:
 The Initial Approach Fix (IAF); or the start of the Radar Vectors to the
Final Approach Course; or the start of the Visual Approach.
 Plan for either the Visual (above 1,000 ft), or Instrument Approach:

 When conventional NPAs are conducted use this supplementary
procedure alongside the appropriate “Instrument Approaches using VNAV

 Tracking for tolerance is:
 5° for NDB and VOR Non-Precision Approaches; and
 Half-Scale CDI Deflection (1.25°) for LOC Approaches.
 Procedure descents must NOT be commenced or continued from the
Platform Altitude, if outside these Limits.
 When LNAV Mode is used if Navigation Performance is sufficient,
HDG/TRG SEL MUST be used instead, to track Raw Data from the Navaid.

1. A published GP Angle on the LEGS Page for the Final Approach

2. An RWxx Waypoint at the Approach End of the runway;
3. A Missed Approach Waypoint BEFORE the Approach End of the
runway (MXxx).
 Additionally:
1. Approach must be selected from the ARR Page. The actual cleared
procedure must be used if available, otherwise an “OVERLAY Approach”
is permitted. Verify
 The Procedure Altitude Constraints are correct; and

 Ensure that Speed Intervention is used (Speed Window OPEN) when
manoeuvring below UP Speed during the Flap Extension schedule while in

 When in “ON APPROACH” Logic if VNAV PTH is engaged from any
other Pitch Mode when significantly BELOW the calculated Vertical Path,
the aircraft may CLIMB to capture the Vertical Path.

 Use FLAPS 20 or 30 for Landing and FLAPS 5 or 20 for Go-Around
 AUTOLAND can be performed with One-Engine Inoperative, using FLAPS
30 or 30;
 ASA must display LAND 3 or LAND 2;
 A NO LAND 3 EICAS Message + LAND 2 ASA on PFD:
 Means a single Failure in the Autopilot System and loss of Fail
Operational capability an Autopilot Channel may disengage.
 A NO AUTOLAND EICAS Message + ASA Information:
 Means a significant loss of Autopilot capability or lack of Multi-Channel
engagement generally associated with an NNC leading to landing
with less than FLAPS 20, or a DUAL Hydraulic System Failure.

 NO ASA on the PFD by 500 ft RA:

 If no ASA annunciation of LAND 3 or LAND 2 or NO AUTOLAND by
500 ft RA, this means there is a SIGNIFICANT Failure of the Autopilot
System;
 Autoland MUST NOT be attempted.
 HYDRAULIC Failure Autoland requires the LEFT system to be
Operative:
 CAT 3b Approach requires L + C + R
 CAT 3a Approach requires L + C or L + R
