William Shakespeare – past tense
Description/Leírás:
Author/Feladatíró Keresztes Dániel
Length/Időtartam 45 perc
William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon Avon, in England. His father, John, was a glove-maker. His mother, Mary, was a
farmer’s daughter. He had two older sisters, two younger sisters and three younger brothers.
William probably studied Latin, Greek and history, and left school when he was 14 or 15. Three years later he married Anne Hathaway. They
had a daughter called Susanna and twins named Judith and Hamnet. Sometime before 1590 he left Stratford and went to London, the capital city
of England.
London’s first theatre opened in 1576. Shakespeare worked in London as an actor and then started writing plays too. In 1593 the plague, a
terrible disease, killed thousands of people and theatres were closed. During this time William started to write poems instead of plays. His short
poems are called sonnets.
Shakespeare helped build a new theatre called The Globe. It opened in 1599. It was round and had space for 3,000 people. At The Globe some
people stood in front of the stage and others had seats. The audience shouted, clapped, booed and laughed while they watched plays. Musicians
created special noises to make the plays more exciting and they had a cannon to make big bangs! No women acted in Shakespeare’s time: men
and boys played all the parts.
Shakespeare wrote comedies with happy endings, like A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He wrote tragedies which had sad endings, like Romeo and
Juliet. His history plays are about kings and queens, like Henry V. Shakespeare wrote 38 plays, maybe more. He loved language and invented
new words and expressions that we still use today.
William became rich and famous. He had houses in London and in Stratford. He died when he was 52 on 23 April 1616. His plays and poetry
were very popular 400 years ago and they are still popular today. People all over the world love his work because he wrote wonderful stories
about very interesting people.

Skills/Fejlesztendő készség(ek) Conditional 2, szövegértési feladatokat végzünk, gyakoroljuk a levélírást és olyan gyakorlatokat végzünk, melyek során
a diákoknak célnyelvi kommunikációt kell alkalmazniuk
Length/Időtartam 2x 60 perc
We travelled to …………………………………………………………………..
We travelled by …………………………………………………………………..
We ate …………………………………………………………………………….
We saw a ………………………………………………………………………….
Then we……………………………………………………………………………
2. Types of travelling
lesz. 15 percet kapnak.
Ezután megindul a teljes csapat,
Miután közösen leellenőriztük a válaszokat, végighaladunk a szövegben szereplő programokon. Minden alkalommal megkérdezem, hogy Who
would like to try …?
Entertainment: places to go
Description/Leírás:
Ehhez Zero Conditionalt
használunk: If I want to have fun, I go to………………. because ……………….
2. Dialogues
A dialógus minimum
3. What’s true about you?
kapcsolódik, amellyel eddig is dolgoztak. Például, ha valaki a mozit kapta, akkor írhatja, hogy: I like rom-coms. vagy, hogy I always have some
popcorn when I go to the cinema.
A sorrendet a születés
ideje adja. A legfiatalabb kezd.

Early Life of ___
Born and raised in London to Kosovar-Albanian parents, ___ has always been familiar with music as her father is a singer. ___ attended Sylvia

and pursuing her singing career. She studied at Parliament Hill School during the week and at the Sylvia Young Theatre School on Saturdays. In
order to earn money for music sessions, ___ had different jobs, such as hostessing restaurants and nightclubs. She began working as a model for

Text:
Some interesting films
Avatar (2009)
One of the most successful films of all time, Avatar (directed by James Cameron) tells the story of a reluctant hero who sets off on an epic
adventure to save the alien world he has learned to call home. Now available in 3-D and 2-D this visually spectacular film is a must-see
for all the family with important messages for both young and old.
The Proposal (2009)
An ambitious and obnoxious boss (played by Sandra Bullock) hears that she will have to return to Canada as her visa has run out. To
avoid deportation, she forces her young assistant (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her so that she can stay in the United States legally. After
many crazy adventures to prove to his family that they do actually love one another, they finally really fall in love. This is a good old-
fashioned feel-good comedy which is the perfect vehicle for both stars.

1. Can you guess the culture? Name as many items as possible.
A diákok különböző képeket
kapnak, amelyek tipikusan a viking kultúrához köthetők (elsősorban fegyverek a vocab miatt), amire nekik kell rájönniük. Ha sikerül, a tárgyakat
is megnevezhetik.
történik, beleírhatják a dokumentumba.
2. Take the quiz and take a screenshot of your final score. https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/quiz/history/quiz-yourself-on-vikings/

1. Which acitivities would you try? Which attractions seem the most interesting? Why? Discuss it with your partner then present
your opinion to the rest of the class.
2. Use the words in brackets to form a new word that fits into the gap. (see in the Printables section)
3. Come up with your own cultural festival. It can be based on an already existing tradition or on a completely new one. You do not
need to focus on exclusively Hungarian festivals. Go to https://www.designcap.com/ and design your poster of the event.
Step 1: Visit the website and create an account. (You can just log in with your Google account)
Step 2: Confirm your registration via your email.

A novella szövege:
Chris Rose, The comeback
Fausto Ruiz got off the boat at the port of the city where he had been born fifty years ago, and to which he had not returned for twenty
years. He walked along the seafront, surprised by how much his hometown had changed, and also by how much of it he could still recognise.
There were lots of new buildings up on the hills around the city now, buildings which he didn’t recognise. Yet many of the old buildings along
the sea were exactly the same as he remembered them, although many of the old shops he remembered were there no more.
He walked away from the port and into the centre of the city. He walked up the main road and saw how all the shops had changed, but
that there was still one small café there which was the same as it had been when he was young and famous. He walked into the café and sat down
at one of the tables. He recognised the owner of the café behind the bar as well as the waiter who was working there. They both looked much,
much older. Fausto felt certain that he didn’t look as old as they did, even though they were all twenty years older now. Fausto sat at his table and
waited for the waiter to come to him. He sat there for ten, fifteen, twenty minutes. Half an hour passed and the waiter continued to ignore him.
Fausto raised his arm and shouted to the waiter, then to the owner of the café behind the bar, but it was useless. They didn’t come and ask him
what he wanted. They were ignoring him.
Angry, Fausto got up and walked out of the café, slamming the door behind him. Such ignorant people, he thought. Now I remember why
I left this town twenty years ago and why I never came back. He walked along the main street as far as the main square in the town and when he
arrived at the main square he remembered the other reason why he had never come back. In the main square of the town there was the theatre. As
he looked at the theatre, Fausto Ruiz had a terrible memory of what had happened there twenty years ago.
Twenty years ago, Fausto Ruiz had been the most famous singer in the world. He had sung in all of the most famous opera houses in the world.
He had sung in London, New York, Moscow, Buenos Aires, Tokyo and Sydney. Everywhere he went, people paid large sums of money for
tickets, then when they saw him sing they clapped and applauded and cheered for hours. When he was at the height of his fame, Fausto Ruiz
decided to come back to his home town and to sing in a triumphant concert in the theatre on the main square of the town.
The concert was announced and all the tickets sold out within a few hours. The evening of the concert, thousands of people crowded into
the theatre to see the legendary Fausto Ruiz sing in the theatre of his hometown. There was silence as Fausto walked onto the stage. Then he
began to sing one of his bestknown songs. And at the end of the song, there was just silence. Nobody clapped, nobody applauded, nobody
cheered. Fausto waited, very surprised for a moment, then started to sing another song. At the end of this song, there was silence for a moment,
then the people began to boo and to hiss. Fausto tried to cover the noise of the booing and hissing by singing another song, very loudly this time.
But it got worse.
The louder he sang, the louder the boos and hisses became. Then someone threw a tomato at him. Then someone else threw a rotten
orange at him. Then someone else threw an old shoe at him. Soon, there was a rain of rotten fruit and vegetables and smelly old shoes falling
down on the great Fausto Ruiz. Fausto was angry. Fausto was furious. He stormed off the stage and out of the theatre. He left his hometown that
night, and he said that he would never, ever go back there ever again. But twenty years later, Fausto Ruiz changed his mind. He was getting old
now, he thought, and he wanted to go back home again, to see the town where he had grown up. But in the café, he realised that perhaps not
much had really changed. He decided to walk into the theatre.
As he walked in he saw the man selling tickets in the box office. It was the same man from twenty years ago. Fausto said hello to him but
the man said nothing and ignored him. ‘Still the same,’ thought Fausto. He walked into the theatre and got up onto the empty stage. He thought
he could hear the terrible booing and hissing of that night twenty years ago. He felt sad, and left the theatre and decided to go and visit the house
where he had been born fifty years ago. He walked all the way across the town, expecting to be recognised by people. When he got close to his
old house he walked through the park where he had played as a small child. He saw some men there, the same age as he was, and thought that he
remembered them.
They were people who had been his friends when he was at school. He walked over to them to say hello, but they too ignored him. He
walked past the old shops near his house. They hadn’t changed. There were still the same people there, all of whom ignored him. He was so
angry and so disappointed now that he began to shout as he walked along the streets. ‘I am the great Fausto Ruiz!!! The greatest singer the world
has ever heard!!!’ Nobody took any notice of him. He continued, ‘Don’t you know me??? Don’t you recognise me???’ Nobody took any notice.
When he finally reached his old house he at least had a pleasant surprise.
Outside the house, there was a statue, and it was a statue of himself. ‘Finally!’ thought Fausto. ‘Somebody has recognised my genius!
They put up a statue of me ... and they never even told me!’ Fausto went to have a closer look at the statue. There was some writing at the bottom
of the statue. ‘Fausto Ruiz,’ it said, ‘Singer’. Fausto was disappointed that it said only ‘singer’ and not ‘the greatest singer in the world’, but at
least it was a statue. There was some more writing. He looked carefully at it. There was his date of birth, fifty years ago. And then there was
something else. It was the date of his death. And the date was yesterday.

The band was named after a song by Muddy Waters, a leading exponent of hard-rocking blues. In their music, The Rolling Stones were the embodiment of the
idea of importing blues style into popular music.
Their first recordings were covers or imitations of rhythm and blues music, but they soon greatly extended the reach of their lyrics and playing, but rarely, if
ever, lost their basic blues feel.
The band came into being in 1961 when former school friends Jagger and Richards met Brian Jones. They named themselves after a song by Muddy Waters, a
popular choice of name —at least two other bands are believed to have called themselves The Rolling Stones before the Jagger/Richards/Jones band was
formed. The original lineup included Mick Jagger (vocals), Brian Jones (guitar), Keith Richards (guitar), Ian Stewart (piano), Charlie Watts (drums) and Dick
Taylor (bass). Taylor left shortly after to form The Pretty Things, and was replaced by Bill Wyman.
By the time of their first album release Ian Stewart was "officially" not part of the band, though he continued to record and perform with them. United by their
shared interest in rhythm and blues music the group rehearsed extensively, playing in public only occasionally at Crawdaddy Club in London, where Alexis
Korner's blues band was resident. At first, Jones, a guitarist who also toyed with numerous other instruments, was their creative leader.
The band rapidly gained a reputation in London for their frantic, highly energetic covers of the rhythm and blues songs of their idols and, through manager
Andrew Loog Oldham, were signed to Decca Records (who had passed when offered The Beatles). At this time their music was fairly primitive: Richards had
learned much of his guitar playing from the recordings of Chuck Berry, and had not yet developed a style of his own, and Jagger was not as in control of the
idioms as he would soon become. Already though, the rhythmic interplay between Watts and Richards was clearly the heart of their music.
The choice of material on their first record, a self-titled EP, reflected their live shows. Similarly, the album The Rolling Stones (England's Newest Hitmakers)
which appeared in April 1964 featured versions of such classics as "Route 66" (originally recorded by Nat King Cole), "Mona" (Bo Diddley) and "Carol"
(Chuck Berry).

Snow White
AUTHOR: BROTHERS GRIMM
“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is a classic story of love, genuine friendship, and jealousy. Even Walt Disney chose Snow White for
his first animated feature and that changed the entire face of animation as well as history in film making. The main character of the fairy tale is a
beautiful girl Snow White who lost her mother as a child. Her father married a beautiful but evil woman who was jealous of her youth and
beauty. The queen always consulted a magical mirror that told her she was the most beautiful woman in the world, until one day the Queen
received the answer she had not hoped for. The Queen could not bear that someone was more beautiful than her.
The Queen is a true example of a negative character seen not only in the fairy tales of the Grimm brothers but also in the stories of other
writers. It represents everything bad and a person you wouldn’t want close to you in real life. It has all the negative characteristics – jealous,
vindictive, selfish and cold. She is very arrogant and will do anything to get what she set her mind to, even if it requires human sacrifice.
She ordered the hunter to take Snow White deep into the forest and kill her. But the hunter couldn’t do it. He decided to let her go, and
Snow White found happiness with her new friends. Still, her happiness didn’t last long because Queen was constantly after her. She tried to kill
her in various ways until she almost succeeded in doing so. Fortunately, Snow White was rescued by a prince. In the end, good overcame evil,
and the beautiful princess lived happily ever after.
The Grimm brothers are the authors of many fairy tales that are well known to this day. They became world-famous after releasing the
first collection of ancient folk tales named “Children’s and Household Tales”. They got the idea for the various fairy tales after collecting folk
stories, which served them as an inspiration for interesting characters and plots. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were not only engaged in researching
and collecting folk tales, at the request of the Prussian king they began to write the “German Dictionary”. The Grimm brothers have written many
interesting stories, including “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.
Like any fairy tale before this one, the story of the beautiful pale maiden has a message. Throughout the story, her kindness and a pure
heart are highlighted, which helps her defeat injustice. Snow White is the embodiment of that innocent goodness that is somehow always
rewarded in the end. She doesn’t have a bit of wickedness in her, so it’s easy to deceive her because she’s a bit naive in its perfection. Still, the
good people around her keep her safe, so luckily she gets her happy ending.

Every time you're online, you are bombarded by pictures, articles, links and videos trying to tell their story. Unfortunately, not all of these stories
are true. Sometimes they want you to click on another story or advertisement at their own site, other times they want to upset people for political
reasons. These days it's so easy to share information. These stories circulate quickly, and the result is … fake news.
There is a range of fake news: from crazy stories which people easily recognise to more subtle types of misinformation. Experts in media studies
and online psychology have been examining the fake news phenomenon. Read these tips, and don't get fooled!
1. Check the source
Look at the website where the story comes from. Does it look real? Is the text well written? Are there a variety of other stories or is it just one
story? Fake news websites often use addresses that sound like real newspapers, but don't have many real stories about other topics. If you aren't
sure, click on the 'About' page and look for a clear description of the organisation.
2. Watch out for fake photos
Many fake news stories use images that are Photoshopped or taken from an unrelated site. Sometimes, if you just look closely at an image, you
can see if it has been changed. Or use a tool like Google Reverse Image search. It will show you if the same image has been used in other
contexts.
3. Check the story is in other places
Look to see if the story you are reading is on other news sites that you know and trust. If you do find it on many other sites, then it probably isn't
fake (although there are some exceptions), as many big news organisations try to check their sources before they publish a story.
4. Look for other signs
There are other techniques that fake news uses. These include using ALL CAPS and lots of ads that pop up when you click on a link. Also, think
about how the story makes you feel. If the news story makes you angry, it's probably designed to make you angry.
If you know these things about online news, and can apply them in your everyday life, then you have the control over what to read, what to
believe and most importantly what to share. If you find a news story that you know is fake, the most important advice is: don't share it!
Preparation task
Complete the sentences with words from the box.

Obviously, this is the sequel to Fun in the City, which is a film I didn't like so it's fair to say my expectations were low. So, you could say I wasn't
disappointed, as it met my expectations. It was awful! It was so awful, I'd rather not spend any more time on it by talking about it. But, that
wouldn't be a film review and I think I owe you all a review to save you wasting your money going to see it.
So, it starts off with this big wedding scene. And, I won't go into why, but the whole scene is just there so they can make this one joke. It's not
even a funny joke ... it's just, ah, it's just terrible. It's got nothing to do with the rest of the film. Anyway, it starts there. Then, instead of the
characters and the plot staying in New York where the original film was set, one of them wins a ticket to India and decides to take all her friends.
It's what directors do when they've run out of ideas … let's take our characters on tour!
Anyway, they gossip, cry and shop, and they repeat this until the end. No real people would ever act like this. I didn't have any sympathy for their
problems or even care what happened to them. Don't go and see it, you'll only encourage them to make another sequel. The world doesn't need
three of these films. Please save your money and go and see the other big film this week: Twilight Mirror.
So, if you're a fan of the book it's based on, you're probably as excited as I was about this. For everyone else, this is a film fans have been waiting
ten years to see. I have to confess, I was a bit nervous. I'd seen the posters and they didn't look right. I didn't love them at all. And I wasn't sure
about the actors they cast either. So I went in not sure what to expect. But … I loved it.
One thing I really liked about it was the pace. They went backwards and forwards between the real world and the computer world and it worked
really well. The special effects brought the computer world to life and I totally believed in it. But, more than that, I felt emotionally connected to
the story and the characters. The whole film worked on so many levels. It reminded me of going to the cinema as a child – how much fun that
was. I can't recommend it enough.
