Micro-Project Proposal
Title –Prepare a report on repair methods for R.C.C cracked elements
1.0 Rationale– Introduction:
Arboriculture
Growing of trees along road side is called arboriculture. Trees can be grown on both urban as well
as rural roads. The trees should be planted at least 12 m way from the center line is to maintain
clearance at least equal to carriage way width at the level of crown of trees.trees are provided to
serve the following purposes. To provide an attractive landscape of roadside. To provide shade to
the road users. To protect against moving sand in desert areas. To provide fruit- bearing trees and
timber. To intercept the annoying sound waves and fumes from road vehicles. In urban areas, road
side planting is mainly for beauty or landscape.Planting of shrubs is done on wide urban roads on
the medians or separators besides providing trees on roadsides.During night drive these shrubs
help to reduce the headlight glare.

TITLE: MAKE A DETAILED REPORT ON DIFFERENT
AGENCIES INVOLVED IN SWM

Solid Waste Management (SWM) involves a complex network of agencies and boards at various levels
of government and administration. The responsibilities of these entities range from policy formulation
and regulation to implementation and monitoring. Here is a detailed report on different agencies/boards
involved in Solid Waste Management:
1. National Level Agencies/Boards:

a) Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change:

 The Ministry of Environment, Forest and climate change is a key national-level agency responsible
for formulating and implementing policies related to environmental conservation, including solid
waste management.
 It plays a crucial role in setting the overall framework for SWM in the country and providing guidelines
for waste management practices.
 Ministry of environment and forest is responsible for all of the environmental policy at the national
Level, including the management of waste. The ministry has an overview of all the activities of the
MSWM sector and makes sure that it is performed well.

b) Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB):

 Under the Ministry of Environment, forest and climate change, the CPCB is responsible for enforcing
environmental laws and standards, including those related to solid waste management.
 It formulates regulations, conducts studies, and monitors the implementation of SWM practices across
the country.
 Central Pollution Control Board keeps a check on all the activities that have potential to pollute the
environment, which includes the monitoring of the municipal solid waste management in the country.
2. STATE LEVEL AGENCIES/ BOARDS

a) STATE POLLUTION CONTROL BOARDS (SPCBs):

 Each state has its own SPCB, which functions under the guidance of the CPCB.
 SPCBs are responsible for implementing and enforcing environmental laws, including those related to
solid waste management, with their respective state.

b) STATE URBAN DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENTS

 These department are often involved in the planning and execution of solid waste management project in
urban areas
 They collaborate with local bodies to ensure the effective implementation of waste management
strategies.
3. LOCAL BODIES AND MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS:

a) MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS:
 At the local level, municipal corporations are pivotal in managing solid waste generated in urban areas.
 They are responsible for the collection, transportation, and disposal of solid waste and often work in
Collaboration with private contractors for these services.

b) PANCHAYATI RAJ INSTITUTIONS (PRIs):

 In rural areas, PRIs play a crucial role in implementing solid waste management practices.
 They are responsible for waste collection, segregation, and disposal in coordination with local
communities
4. SPECIAL PURPOSE AGENCIES:

a) WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITIES:

 Some states have established dedicated waste management authorities to oversee and streamline SWM
activities.
 These agencies often focus on the development of infrastructure, recycling initiatives, and public
awareness programs.

b) URBAN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITIES:

 These authorities are involved in urban planning and development and play a role in
incorporating waste management infrastructure into city planning.
5. CITY CORPORATION:
 City corporation is responsible for the making of the solid waste management policy, setting up the target
And objectives. They are responsible for managing the solid waste in the city and are answerable to the
State board and central pollution control board. They also have the authority to privatize the solid waste
management sector.

6. NON- GOVERNMANTAL ORGANIZATION (NGOs) AND

COMMUNITY GROUPS:
 NGOs and community groups play a crucial role in creating awareness, promoting waste reduction, and
implementing community-level waste management initiatives.
 They often work in collaboration with government agencies to address specific local challenges.
7. PRIVATE FORMAL SECTOR:
 Their function include the collection of waste, transfer of waste to truck, transport of waste to the
specified dump yard. They have the responsibility of disposing off the waste by alternative layering of
waste and soil, spraying it with EM solution and water.

8. PRIVET INFORMAL SECTOR:

 The informal sector in the city is very large and plays a very vital role in the MSWM. It comprises of the
rag pickers who retrieve recyclable waste from the community bins and landfills, and sell it to either
bigger dealers or to recycling factories.
9. RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS:
 Universities and research institutions are involved in studying and developing sustainable waste
management technologies.
 They provide valuable research inputs for policy formulation and best practices.

10. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the effective management of solid waste requires a multi- tiered approach involving
collaboration among national, state, and local government bodies, along with active participation from
the private sector, NGOs, and local communities. Coordination and cooperation among these entities are
crucial for the successful implementation of comprehensive and sustainable solid waste management
practices.
