COVID Positive Personnel

(A Narrative)

January 4, 2021, when Binaliuan National High School recorded the first ever Covid case of
the school since pandemic.

Mrs. Queenie Ellen, ADAS II, 45 years old and a resident of Jaro, Iloilo City. Taking a public
transportation is a risk for her to take when she reports for school everyday. Unfortunately she was
symptomatic and was admitted at _____________.

After Mrs. Barrido reported her case to the Officer-In-Charge, Mrs. Onnie T. Torreflores seek
advice to the Division Nurse, Eugenia Sotiar on the protocols to be followed in this scenario. The
school Nurse took charge of the reporting to the Division Office of the said case for it to be listed and
given appropriate action. The Division Nurse conducted interview and contact tracing via messenger
call. Fortunately, she was not able to report to school a week before her diagnosis. So, none from the
school is her close contact. When all the details were given, she was advised to take hospital
medication religiously and strictly follow health protocols. No one is allowed to visit her since
everyone is still physically reporting at school.

After hospital confinement, the patient was recommended for 14-day quarantine period
although she already tested negative.

With this case, the school head reminded everyone to strictly observe health and safety
protocols at school, at home and especially when commuting to school.

After 14-day quarantine period, Mrs. Barrido reported to school but she has to stay at her office
and limit getting close with other teacher. She is already negative but its her choice to seclude from
other because she doesn’t want to make other teachers feel awkward of her presence.

However, after her confinement, she still experienced constant colds and flu-like symptoms
that made her feel uncomfortable. Everytime she and the rest of the other personnel experience the
same symptoms, they are immediately advised to stay at home and have a constant check of their
condition. They cannot report to school until they are clear.

With this very first and only case of Covid-19 among school personnel since pandemic,
Binaliuan National High School became more vigilant in protecting each other from this virus.
Everyone was informed on their obligation to stay safe and well as to make everybody healthy and
virus-free all the time.
