A. Identifying information
a. 8th grade; 13 years old
b. Grew up in OC
c. Pronouns: she/ her/ hers
d. Hispanic & bilingual
e. The student lives with Mom, Dad, 1 older brother, uncle and aunt.
i. She has lived with her uncle and aunt since she was 5 years old
but is not enjoying that so much.
B. Presenting problem
a. Difficulty identifying emotions and self-regulation.
b. G expressed that she internalizes many problems and often feels
overwhelmed by her own emotions
i. She has a hard time processing her problems (e.g., a conflict
between her and her aunt, which has grown bigger every year and
remains unresolved), and even though she would want to confront
her aunt, her parents dismiss her problems and tell her to go to her
room and to avoid the problem.
C. Diagnosis/ Eligibility
a. Signs of depression?
i. She stays in her room most of the time and has a hard time
opening up about her frustrations.
ii. She experiences feelings of emptiness, suffocation, and a sense
that no one is on her side
D. History
a. There is no history of self-harm or suicidal ideation
b. Had a good relationship with her uncle before he got married, but she felt
that their relationship became more distant after having conflicts with her
aunt.
c. She has addressed these concerns to her parents before; however, they
tell her to ignore her aunt

E. Evidence-based treatment
a. The student would benefit from exploring different conflict resolution
styles. Through our conversation, she will be able to identify the pros and
cons of her conflict resolution approach.
b. SFBT- exploring what she could have done differently if she were to revisit
this problem
F. Theoretical Conceptualization
a. Exploring different conflict resolution styles may help her understand and
analyze various approaches, improving her ability to manage conflicts
effectively
b. SFBT- future-focused; provided an opportunity to contemplate how she
might feel afterward, assisting her in understanding whether avoidance or
confrontation is the better approach to dealing with her problems
G. Individual/ Cultural Considerations
a. The only support that she receives is from school
b. Initially, G had a hard time expressing her thoughts and feelings as she
often feels overwhelmed when being vulnerable.

H. Methods of intervention
a. Provide affirmations and a safe space for her to talk about her problems
and emotions
i. Unpack her feelings and the problem that she is dealing with
b. Collaboratively identifying coping strategies that she is willing to do
i. Open to journaling

I. Transference/ Countertransference
a. None identified

J. Response to treatment
a. The student looks forward to check-ins, as she believes that they help her
better process her problems after discussing them
b. She believes this is the only opportunity she has to let her concerns out

K. Termination
a. The student will be ready to terminate when she feels like she can
healthily cope with her problems

L. Recommendations
a. Student should continue to have check-ins
