EGEC SELF PLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR 2023

Submission of a Self Placement form on WIL (InPlace)

1. On the home page, there will be a Self Placement submission 7. When entering the Duration of the placement (days) - the
button for the group you require to complete a placement for. experience and duration will populate (e.g. for 3-5 years 15 days, for
Birth to 2 years 15 days and for Kindergarten 25 days).

6. Please add in the Placement Start and End Date (you can obtain
the dates from the Placement Calendar). If you wish to add or
change the dates later, please save the Form as a Draft only.

NOTE: You will need to give 2 weeks’ notice to the Placements

21. The Self Placement application has now been submitted for the
EGEC Placements Team to review and approve your placement.

The green confirmation box should appear briefly in the top right-
hand corner.

Workplace Approval:

18. Confirm if the placement will be taking place at your workplace.


If you are currently working in the centre, please check the
Workplace Placement information on COMM-2023 space and
upload the completed Mentoring Plan, signed by your Centre
Director, your Mentor and you. NOTE: You cannot begin a placement without University
confirmation email due to legal implications.

NOTE: Please check your WIL record regularly. If there is no


confirmed placement appearing on your WIL record, you
cannot attend the placement. Placements that were running
without University’s approval will not be accepted and you will
be asked to re-do your placement.

22. A number 1 should appear next to the submission button now.

23. Reviewing the submission is done by clicking on the Self


Placement submission button, scroll to the bottom of the page and
click View 1 submitted.

SELF PLACEMENTS GUIDELINES:

1. The EGEC Placements Office will review your Self Placement details. Please allow 14 days for your placement to be approved.

2. Check your WIL record and your VU email for placement details regularly. If the placement is not confirmed for any reason, you will be notified of
this outcome.

3. If there is no sufficient details provided, or you have entered the placement start date that is in the past, the form will be returned to you marked as
“INCOMPLETE” with the message in the feedback box outlining the reason. You will be able to enter additional details, adjust your dates or upload the
missing document and re-submit the same form for approval.

4. If your Self Placement was returned to you for the reasons outlined above and you have not resubmitted your form with the correct details within 5
working days, your Self Placement will be returned to you as “NOT APPROVED” with the message in the feedback box outlining the reason. You will
need to submit the new Self Placement form with the correct information and 14 days weeks’ notice for approval.

5. Once your Self Placement is confirmed, you will receive an email with your placement confirmation details. The email will be sent from WIL to your
VU student email account. Please contact your placement centre immediately to confirm your attendance and discuss induction process.

6. Once your placement is confirmed, the EGEC Placements Office will send your placement documentation to your placement centre.

7. Please notify the EGEC Placements Office and your placement centre of any changes to your placement details.
