CF1: DISCOVERING the TRUTH

Lesson Title: Trendy Social Media Thoughts versus the Attitude of Gratitude

NAME:
DE VERA REYN JAEVYNE F.

There are trendy thoughts that are being popularized by social media influencers, and can have a dramatic impact on
the decisions of youth and beginning professionals. There is a need to examine these thoughts that are spreading in
popularity.

1. YOLO, which means “You Only Live Once” can be a positive idea which is related to the expression, “carpe diem”
or seize the day. As a positive thought, “seize the day” can be a good encouragement for a person to be ready for
opportunities because they “knock only once”. On the other hand, YOLO can be negative when this would lead a
person to be impulsive and jump at decisions without considering the consequences.

There is one instance in the Bible of a person who practiced YOLO. In Luke 12: 16-21, there was a rich man who
had bountiful harvest—so much that he had to tear down the old storage houses to build bigger ones. Then he
said to himself, “I have plenty stored up for years. I will take things easy—eat, drink, and be merry.” Then in
verse 20 God said to him, “You fool! This very night life will be demanded from you…”

What is your personal point-of-view on the concept of YOLO?
As a person my point of view on the concept of YOLO is to do what you loved or want without being
hesitant on what’s gonna happened even it is good or bad to you as long as you enjoy every moment
of it.

Do you feel that believing in this concept would be beneficial or damaging to your life as a student or to your future
professional life? Explain your answer.
I think it is beneficial to me as a student or to my future professional life because I am a risk taker in
everything I do not believe in failure as long as I do learned about something it is a win for myself.

Instead of YOLO, what principle do you choose to believe in and practice? Explain your answer.
I think it will be “carpe diem” because I want to live in the moment always and also when I want to do
something in life, I’ll do it.
2. FOMO, which means “FEAR OF MISSING OUT”. From the newportacademy.com it is defined as “the uneasy
and sometimes all-consuming feeling that you’re missing out—that your peers are doing, in the know about,
or in possession of more or something better than you.”

Seventy-five percent of young adults reported experiencing this uneasy feeling, and it has become easier for
people to experience this because of social media where they can readily see the glamorous posts and
photos of their former classmates or present colleagues. In the same way, people who believe that they are
parts of a group can feel that they are being left-out when they are not invited to social events and activities
where everyone else is there on the photo posted on social media.

Have you experienced FOMO? What did you feel?
(If you have never experienced FOMO, what is your effective strategy for combatting this negative emotion?)
Of course I feel envy, because it affects my self-esteem. It’s not just the sense that I might be better
things I could do without them but it is feeling that I feel envy or betrayed something like that.

If not overcome, what do you think are the dangerous effects of FOMO
a) On your life now as a student?
I think as a student the dangerous effects of FOMO is that they envy everything around them you
b) don’t have to level yourself to them if you can’t keep up to them, because sometimes they are just On
out of your league that’s why you don’t have to level yourself to them. your
life
as a

professional someday?
I think it would be on how your workmates or co-workers approach you because sometimes being in
professional industry you will feel left out on something that you didn’t know that your colleagues
talked about but they didn’t tell you about it.
