Fraction – part of a whole


Parts:
1. numerator – part of the fraction above the line
- part being taken away

2. denominator – the number below the line


- the total number of equal parts of a whole

3. fraction bar – the line tat separates the numerator and the denominator in a fraction

Kinds of Fractions

1. Proper fraction – less than one whole


- numerator is less than the denominator

 Changing improper fraction to mixed number


Rules :

1. Divide the numerator by the denominator.


2. Write the remainder as the numerator of the fraction part.

 Changing mixed number to improper fraction

Rules :

1. Multiply the whole number by the denominator.


2. add the answer to the numerator and write it over the same denominator.
