Lesson 8 : Addition of Integers with Like and Unlike Signs

 To add integers with like signs, ignore first the signs and add as in whole
numbers. Then copy the common sign for the sum.

Examples:

-10 + -5 = - 15

15 + 12 = 27

-9 + ( -7 ) + ( - 2 ) = -18

 To add integers with unlike signs ignore first the signs and subtract as in whole numbers.
Then copy the sign of the bigger addend for the sum.

 When adding more than two addends, add those with like signs, then follow the rules in
adding integers with unlike signs.

Examples:

-8 + 3 = -5
12 + (-6 ) = 6
5 + ( - 9 ) = -4
