sewing the back

Before you sew in the back, block the
sweater, shaping it. It will be easier to
sew in afterwards (see pages 14 and
15).

1. Place your sweater flat, with WS

facing up (whole interior should be
uncovered).

2. Fold the back piece on your left up to

the point, where its vertical edge is
directly under the left end of right
armhole cast on edge. Starting from the
bottom of the sweater, sew the left back
using Mattress Stitch to the front piece.
Try to make it straight, along one stitch.

3. Now place your sweater such that the

left sleeve is at the top exactly in the
middle (the sweater is lying on its side).

4. Fold the back piece on your right up

to the point, where its vertical edge is
directly under the left end of armhole
cast on edge. Sew it just like the piece
before (now sewing happens on RS).

increasing evenly tutorial

It is very simple to increase evenly. You will not be increasing one under another - it would
create a visible line of increases, that we want to avoid. By increasing evenly, the sweater
will widen, but the increases will be almost invisible.

In the picture above you can see three increasing rows. In the uppermost, 5 sts on the front
are increased. It is done evenly, so the distance between M1L increases stays the roughly the
same. It is important, that the increase in the next row does not happen directly below the
increase in the upper one, as shown in the second and third increasing row. The gaps
between increases in one row do not have to be exactly the same, but it is important, that
they occur on the whole width of a row.

The width of the space can be computed by diving the total number of stitches by the
number of required increases (when knitting in round), or by the number of required
increases + 1 (when knitting flat). Round the result to the closest integer.

You do not need to count that every time you want to increase - you can use interlocking
markers, to mark one row before increases position of increases. Place the sweater flat, and
guided by the previous increases, mark the correct places.
