Before we start our lecture I would like

to ask you & my self one certain question…..
What is the difference between active and passive voice
As you know the tense is all about time references, voice describes whether the grammatical subject of
a clause performs or receives the action of the verb. Here’s the formula for the active voice:
[subject] + [verb (performed by the subject)] + [optional object] Suha opens the door.

In a passive voice construction, the grammatical subject of the clause receives the action of the verb.
So, the door from the above sentence, which is receiving the action, becomes the subject. The formula:
[subject]+[some form of the verb to be]+[past participle of a transitive verb]+[optional prepositional
phrase] The door was opened by Suha.

That last little bit—“by Suha”—is a prepositional phrase that tells you who the performer of the action is.
But even though Suhais the one doing the opening, she’s no longer the grammatical subject. A passive
voice construction can even drop her from the sentence wholly:

The door was opened.

 How can we change the sentence
from active voice into passive voice?
 You must know what is the tense of the sentence.

 Omit the subject and put the object instead of subject.

 If the tense of a sentence is present and the object is singular we have to use (is + p.p),
and if the object is plural we have to use (are + p.p) . While the tense of a sentence is
past and the object is singular we have to use (was + p.p), and if the object is plural we
have to use (were + p.p) .
