Objectives
Subject Matter:
Topic: Biomolecules
References: Science and Technology 10, Alumaga M.J. et al. pg. 278-293
Procedure:
A. Daily Routine
- Greetings
- Prayer
- Checking of attendance
- Checking of assignment
B. Lesson Proper
- Elicit: Ask the students what they had for breakfast. Ask about their prior knowledge of Go, Grow,
and Glow Food.
- Introduce the idea of biomolecules and describe how they serve as the basis for life.
-Use interactive graphics or visual aids to demonstrate the various categories of biomolecules, such
as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
-Encourage learners to make notes on how these biomolecules different and are similar.
Explain:
a. Carbohydrates: Give examples like glucose and cellulose to illustrate their function in structural
support and energy storage.
b. Lipids: Give examples such fats, oils, and phospholipids to illustrate their role in insulating cells,
storing energy, and forming cell membranes.
c. Proteins: Give examples such enzymes, antibodies, and collagen to illustrate their role in immune
system functioning, cell structure, and the breakdown of enzymes.
d. Nucleic acids: Give examples like DNA and RNA to illustrate their role in protein synthesis and
storage of genetic information.
Elaborate:
Enable students to apply their knowledge by organizing a group activity or realistic biomolecule
experiment. For example, students could examine food labels together in pairs to determine which
biomolecules are present.
Evaluate:
Evaluate the understanding of students using some kind of methods, for example during class
discussions, do a quiz, or written assignments just to assess the comprehension of the students.
Extend:
-Organize students by assigning them to create a project regarding the biomolecules, so that they
can further explore the topics and even deeper understanding.
-Let the students present their own findings by using different platforms, example: power point
presentations, creating infographics or even a video on how biomolecules are important in their
daily life.
