Method Statement for Supply and Installation of Wooden doors

01. Objective
To describe the sequence of work and coordination of the installation of door in compliance to
standard and as shown on the drawings.

02. Plant, Machinery and equipment


 Hand tools – (Hammer, plumb bob, chisel, screw driver etc.)
 Spirit level
 Manual circular saw
 Drilling machines
 Miter saw
 Cordless drills
 Measuring tape

03. Procedure for wooden doors


All submittals, fabrication and manufacture, product delivery and storage shall be made in
accordance with project specifications. Required samples of solid surfacing and ironmongeries
should be submitted for review and engineers approval before proceeding with the work. The
samples shall show color, finish and details of edging, forming etc.

04. Manufacturing
 Selecting, cutting and preparing wood as per the drawings using basic machinery.
 Making jambs and the header as per the detailed drawing and according to the site
measurements.
 Making door frame by fastening jambs and the header using Epi-Fix glue and kept for 24
hours for proper bonding.
 Making top rail, bottom rail, middle rail, stiles and panels as per the approved design
and the drawing.
 Making door frame by fastening top rail, bottom rail, middle rail, stiles and panels using
Epi-Fix glue and kept for 24 hours for proper bonding.
 Smoothing by sanding machinery
 Check the quality and the sizes before applying the paints.

05. Transport and protection


All joinery shall be kept covered during transit and kept clear of the ground at the site. It shall be
handled and stacked carefully to avoid damage.

06. Painting
OPTION 01 – Auto Paint
 Smoothing and preparing surfaces for painting.
 Applying timber barrier coat.
 Filling surfaces defects using putty filler.
 Smoothing and soft sanding.
 Spraying of one coat of Paint (as per the approved paint sample).
 Smoothing by very soft sanding.
 Spraying of another one coat of paint (as per the approved paint sample).

OPTION 02 – Water Based Paint


 Smoothing and preparing surfaces for painting.
 Filling surfaces defects using putty filler.
 Smoothing and soft sanding.
 Applying one coat of sanding sealer and kept for 3-4 hours to get dry.
 Smoothing and soft sanding.
 Applying another one coat of sanding sealer and kept for 3-4 hours to get dry.
 Smoothing and soft sanding.
 Spraying of two coat of water based stain to match the approved color.
 Spraying of two coats of top coat.

07. Storage at site


 The store on site shall be protected from dirt and risk of damage from other trades
working like false/ceiling works, flooring, plaster etc.
 All products shall be stacked level and flat, on timber support covered to avoid marking
on the finished surface. There shall be three such supports equally spaced, one across the
center and one 300mm from each end.
 Avoid leaving under direct sunlight.

08. Installation on site


 The site engineer /Site supervisor should ensure that the area is ready to install wooden
doors.
 Confirm the door location against the approved drawing.
 Verify that the dimensions of the opening are as specified in the drawing.
 Measure the dimension of the door frame/ sub-frame to verify the frame is of correct
size.
 Align the door frame/ sub-frame against the setting out lines, 1m datum line and level
pegs.
 Secure the frame temporarily using timber wedges
 Adjust the position of the wedges to obtain the required vertical and horizontal
alignment
 Provide sufficient gaps between the wall and door frame to receive the wall finishes
 After verifying the alignment of frame, fasten the frame in position using wall plugs and
screws.
 Check correct door panel as per approved drawing and the design
 Install the door panel. Ensure a consistent gap and not more than 5mm between the door
panel and frame.
 Fix the ironmongery and accessories in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
 Use the approved paint for final touchup if there are any damages.
 Any inspection comments from the CONSULTANT for installation of wooden works
shall be addressed for immediate corrective action.
