Key ineffeciencies nikhitha information
in optum's healthcare
systems
Explanation

Optum's existing healthcare information system lacks

the capacity to efficiently and quickly coordinate
patient care across numerous teams worldwide. To
overcome this issue, switching from manual to
automated workflow procedures is advised.

Optum, a UnitedHealth firm company, is a worldwide

healthcare services firm and pharmaceutical benefit
manager with operations in 150 countries. It focuses on
gathering and maintaining high-quality data to improve
healthcare for millions of people. Optum Infusion
Services, a division of Optum, provides infusion services
across the US, specialized in home infusion for acute
and chronic therapy, having service locations in nearly
every stateOptum Infusion Services' usage of numerous
Healthcare Information Systems (HIS), such as CareLink,
CPR+, EPIC, and AllScripts, derives from the
requirement to electronically access, organize, store,
and communicate health information. However,
maintaining data across various systems presents
difficulties, especially when only two of the systems are
interconnected. Working with several HIS systems is
time-consuming and inefficient because of the
fragmentation. If there were just one or two EHR
systems to utilize, or if the organization had fewer
employees, this issue may not be as pressing..
Key inefficiencies in Optum's healthcare information systems
can vary, but some common methods involved in addressing
them include:process optimisation,quality assurance,data
analytics,data integration etc..

It appear to be researching the problems and benefits of

different healthcare information systems, particularly those
related to Optum. Integrating various technologies into a
single, comprehensive platform with interoperability is a
typical objective in healthcare ITThe findings indicate that the
CareLink system is beneficial for tracking and controlling a
patient's workflow prior to medicine distribution, something
other systems, such as EPIC, cannot achieve. However, there
are options to reduce mistakes and boost productivity.
According to research, computer-based automated workflow
procedures are more efficient than manual or paper-based
processes, resulting in speedier care delivery. Automated
approvals are not only easier to perform, but also more
difficult to fabricate, as they include explicit timestamped
documentation. For Optum, this might entail adding
automatic controls upon action completion, streamlining
previous authorizations in real time at the point of care, and
eliminating time-consuming faxes, paper forms, and phone
calls.
The conclusion is that introducing process management
technologies that automate workflows can help to
alleviate administrative headaches in healthcare. These
tools are generally low-cost and simple to apply.
Automation increases productivity, lowers mistakes,
and makes information more accessible. Furthermore,
combining electronic health record systems and
optimizing their capabilities can improve efficiency and
minimize mistakes. Improvements in these areas are
critical for simplifying complicated processes, reducing
care gaps, and delivering more dependable patient care
and service.
