ABSTRACT
The summer umbrella is aimed at reducing a lot of heat during the day by use of propellers
locked inside the umbrella which will be responsible for producing fresh air. The propeller
would be connected to the motors and with a circuit to the batteries which will be chargeable.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We would wish to acknowledge God for giving us this opportunity to be alive today. Second to
the Ruiru secondary school administration for allowing us to participate in this years fair. Also
to our teachers Ms Thiong’o and Mr. Chichole for their guidance during the preparation. Lastly
to our classmates for their moral support.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
An umbrella is a folding canopy supported by metallic materials. It is used to shelter a person
from the sun or rain. As one of the most efficient means of protecting the person from the sun
and rain, umbrellas received countless upgrades over the years. The umbrella originated from
the Latin word “umbros”meaning shade or shadow.
Since the umbrella could not produce enough shelter to the people ‘like our national
holidays,we decided to enhance it by putting the propeller which will produce a fresh airfor the
one affected by this heat.
OBJECTIVES/ HYPOTHESIS
To minimize the amount of heat from the sun that reaches us through radiation.
RELEVANCE/SIGNIFICANCE
LIMITATIONS
1. It is fragile
2. Heavy to carry around
3. Cells can not be recharged
ASSUMPTIONS/PRECAUTIONS
1. Need to be handled with care
2. Expensive
3. Fragile

LITERATURE REVIEW
The fisrt light weight folding umbrella in Europe was
introduced in 1710. Thousand years of innovation and
discovery enabled constant stream of improvements to the
umbrella designs. An umbrella was used in Egypt and so many
other areas of the world to shelter from sunshine. It continued
being modified up to nowadays where we have very small
umbrellas that can fit in pockets.

CHAPTER THREE
METHODOLOGY
APPARATUS
1. An umbrella
2. 9-12 volts chargeable battery
3. A solar panel about 2 by 5cm
4. 6 metres insulated wires
5. Cable
6. Switch
7. 4-5 motors (electric)
8. Small propellers
PROCEDURE
1. With the umbrella open fix the solar panel at the top.
2. Connect the solar with a cable
3. Connect the cable to the battery
4. Pull the wires and connect to the motors
5. Connect awire inside the umbrella by cutting a space in the
metallic directly to a switch
6. Charge the battery either by solar or electrically fro 6-8 hours
OBSERVATION
The propellers would rotate thus producing some fresh air for
8hrs if the battery is fully charged.
