How to Create Customer Hierarchy?

Structure of customer hierarchy:

A customer hierarchy is a flexible structure consisting of customers. Each customer - with the
exception of the uppermost customer - refers to another customer at a higher level in the hierarchy
(known as a higher-level customer). Customers that are assigned to higher-level customers are
known as dependent customers.

To set up a customer hierarchy structure, following stages are involved:

A) Define master data records
B) Assign Nodes in Customer hierarchy

A) Define Master data records:

1) Hierarchy Node:
A hierarchy node is type of customer master records. The procedure to define the hierarchy is
similar to creating the customer master. The only change is in account group and number range.
- The account group to define the customer hierarchy node is ZCH1
- ZCH1 has external number range

Use Transaction code BP – Create customer master to define hierarchy node
Please refer the screen below:
1. Go to transaction code- BP and select tab organization and click on start

BP screen will pop up where add mandatory fields.

On Grouping Field add- ZCH1

2. Then go to Control Tab and add BP type as ZCH1 and give Business partner number- give new BP
number starting with starting from Sequence 600899 and follow on then click to address tab

 3. Go to address Tab and give Name- similar to sold to party name and city and save customer.

4. Once customer is saved go to Display customer Role drop down and select BP role FLCU01-
Customer and click on Sales and Distribution tab and add sales area similar to customer sales are
and save.

Now parent customer is created blow steps on how to assign parent customer to customer nodes

The number range to select the customer number is 6XXXXX- 699999
(Please note: in old system the numbers were 5XXXXX- 599999. The only change is from 5 series to 6
series. For e.g. Old 500119 number is defined in new system as 600119)
B) Assign Nodes in Customer Hierarchy
To create an assignment in a customer hierarchy, proceed as follows:
In the SD Master Data Screen select, Business partners Customer hierarchy Change.
You reach the selection screen for customer hierarchies.

Enter a customer hierarchy type (the standard version includes only one type: A), a validity date,
and click on

If the customers are assigned to the hierarchy node then the system displays a list of existing
customer hierarchies that are valid for the date you entered.

If there are no assignments then you will get a message like,

To add customer to the hierarchy node, position your cursor at the top of the screen and select
Customer  Assign

The data in the upper half of the box defines the node you want to assign. The data in the lower half
specifies the higher-level node.

Enter your data.

If you are assigning your node to a higher-level, enter data in the lower half of the dialog box. If
you are assigning an existing customer master record as a node, you can only assign customers
with valid account groups. Valid account groups are defined in Customizing for Sales.

Press ENTER.
The system creates the assignment and displays it in the customer hierarchy.

Repeat the procedure for as many nodes as you need to create.
Save your work.
Please note: To assign a customer to hierarchy, both records should exist in same sales area.
If the sales area is different ten first extend the records to the sales area and then proceed with the
assignment.
