On what day of the week does it take the longest for students to collect path lunch at the canteen?
Introduction
Break time is one of the most awaited times of the day for most students at school. During break time
many students are lined up to collect path lunch. Some students even leave their classes extremely early
to be able to collect lunch. The researchers have observed that students collect their plate lunches
earlier on some days compared to others, so they have decided to do an investigation to discover what
days of the week it takes the longest and the shortest amount of time for students to collect path lunch
at the canteen.
Method of Data Collection
The researchers collected data from the cafeteria line to analyze the time a student takes to receive their
lunch each school day. The researchers collected the first 10 students' data daily from Monday to
Friday. Collecting the data they used a timer to check the time each student arrived and the time each
student got served, documenting the results in a table, the students collected the data the exact way
each day. The five sets of time would then be analyzed and compared.
Presentation of Data
The tables below show the time ten ( 10 ) students arrived and were served their path lunches for each
day. They also show the total amount of time waited by each student and the average time.

Analysis of Data
The average time for ten ( 10 ) students to get served on Monday was 7 mins. On Tuesday it took 7.3
mins making it the longest day that students had to wait to get served. On Wednesday it took an
average time of 5.3 mins. On Thursday it took 3.3 minutes, making it the shortest day that students
had to wait to get served and on Friday it took an average time of 6.3 minutes. On the table that shows
the times and how frequently the students had to wait to collect their lunches, 16 minutes is the most
frequent time. Of four ( 4 ) of the five ( 5 ) days at least 10 students collectively had to wait 16 minutes
for their lunches throughout the week. Although 16 minutes was the most frequent time, a total of 15
students throughout the week had to wait for 19 minutes to collect their lunches.
Discussion of Findings
Based on the data collected the researchers were able to answer their project title, that is “ On what day
of the week does it take the longest for students to collect path lunch at the canteen?” The data
collected shows that the day that students would have taken the longest to collect their lunch was on
Tuesday with an average waiting time of 7.3 minutes. Not only was the data helpful with completing
the main objective of this SBA but the researchers were able to gather additional information. In the
data collected, it can be seen that the shortest day for students to collect their lunches was Thursday
with an average time of 3.3 minutes. Based on a table shown in the presentation of data, 16 minutes
was the most frequent time with a total of 10 students having to wait to collect their lunches, and a
total of 15 students throughout the week had to wait for 19 minutes to collect their lunches.
Conclusion
It can be concluded that the day that students would have taken the longest to collect their lunch was
on Tuesday with an average waiting time of 7.3 minutes and the shortest day for students to collect
their lunches was Thursday with an average time of 3.3 minutes. Also, 16 minutes was the most
frequent time with a total of 10 students having to wait to collect their lunches, and a total of 15
students throughout the week had to wait for 19 minutes to collect their lunches.
