Target
Good day learner! You have learned in the previous module
on how to find the missing numbers in an equation. Now get
ready to explore more.
In this module, you will learn how to find, estimate, and
solving word problems on elapsed time.
When you are done with this module, you are expected to
attain these learning competencies:
 Finds the elapsed time in minutes and seconds.
(M4ME-IIIf-11)
 Estimates the duration of time in minutes (M4ME-IIIf-12).
 Solves problems involving elapsed time (M4ME-IIIg-13).

Problem 1:
Chienoe and his friends started playing volleyball at 9:10
a.m. and ended at 9:45 a.m. How long did they play?

Who played volleyball? What time did they start playing? At what
time did they end playing? How will you solve the problem?
 By drawing a number line
Length of the spent playing is 35 minutes

Started playing Ended playing

 By counting 35 minutes from 9:10 to 9:45

 By computation: Subtracting 9:10 from 9:45

9:45 Think of 9:45 as 9 hours and 45 minutes

- 9:10 Think of 9:10 as 9 hours and 10 minutes
0:35
Problem 2:
Find: Started time: 8:30
Ended time: 9:25
9:25 8:60+25
Rename 1 hour as 60
9:25 8:85
minutes. Add 60 and 25

Kevin walks everyday around the court. This morning, he
started walking at 6:24 a.m. and ended at 6:57 a.m. About how
long did he walk this morning?

Who walks everyday? At what time did he start and end walking?
What is being asked in the problem? Will you compute for the
exact time that Kevin spent in walking? What will you do then?
Estimate the amount of time spent by Kevin in walking.
How will you do it? Round the times in minutes.
Study this.
Estimated Time
6:57 6:50
- 6:24 6:20 Subtract the rounded times
