Lesson 1: Finds the elapsed time in minutes and seconds

Let’s Understand (Study the Concept)

Paula started watching her favorite educational TV
program at 6:30 in the evening. If she finished watching at
7:25 in the evening, how long did she watch the program.

How will you solve the problem?

You can solve number line to solve for the answer.

You noticed that from 6:30 to 7:25 is 55 minutes. 7:25 Rename 1 hour to 60
You can also subtract for the answer. minutes.
Add 60 and 25.
6:85 6:60 + :25 = 6:85
Subtract.
- 6:30
0:55
So, Paula watched her favorite TV program for 55 minutes. The length of time that
Paula spent watching TV is called elapsed time.
Let’s Apply
Find the elapsed time.

he started jogging at 6:12 a.m. and ended at 6:48 a.m.
About how long did he jogs this morning?
What is being asked in the problem?
Will you compute for the exact time that Uno spent in jogging?
What will you then?
Estimate the amount of time spent by Uno in jogging.
How will you do it? Round the times in minutes .
Study this:
Actual Times Estimated Therefore, Uno jogged for
Times about 40 minutes. Try to
6:48 6:50 round your actual
6:12 6:10 elapsed, is the answer
0:36 0:40 reasonable?

Let’s Apply
