B. Motivation
Okay, Before we start our lesson, I have given her an
activity that can wake up your mind.
In this activity, I will group you into 2 groups. Now count
1 and 2 until the end. Each group finds the words in the
box and circles them. The fastest group has the winner.
Before we start, let's see the time that you started and
the time that each group ended.
Now begins.
The time started at 8:30 and group 1 ended at 8:35 and
group 2 ended at 8:36. So the group 2 is the winner.
In the activity, how many minutes did group 1 and group
2 end?
Sir! Group 1 finished the activity in 5
minutes, and the last group finished the
Oh,Very Good! activity in 6 minutes.
C. Presentation
Now, Did you have an idea of what our topic was for
today? Sir! I think our topic for today is time.
Very Good! It all about time.
Our topic for today is elapsed time. Now, What comes to
your mind when you hear the word "elapsed time"?
Sir! Elapsed time is how much time passes
Very Good! when we are doing an activity.
The elapsed time identifies how long you have been
doing an activity like reading, cooking, browsing the
internet, cleaning, etc.
Finding elapsed time is different from just adding or
subtracting number because in here, hours, minutes and
seconds are all different units.
For example, in the earlier activity, group 1 started at
8:30 and ended at 8:35. To find out how long group 1
does the activity, we can use subtraction to identify how
many minutes they do the activity
Example: Time ended : 8:35
Time started: 8:30
0:05 minutes
so the group 1 have a 5 minutes to ended the activity.
Another Example: Group 2. Time ended: 8:36
Time started: 8:00
0: 06mins.
Did you get it!
Very Good.
Another Example;
Yes sir!
1. end time 1: 40
Start time 1:15
0: 25 minutes
2. end time 7: 30
start time 7: 00
0: 30 minutes
Now in the board. Find the elapsed time.
1. Time ended : 10: 35 2. Time ended: 9: 14
Time started: 10: 20 Time started: 8: 40
Very Good!
Now! I have a problem solving. Let's find out how long
The pupils answer the activity in the board.
they do their activity.
Beatriz started answering one of her modules in
Mathematics 4 at 8:30 in the morning and finished it at
9:25 a.m. How long did she spend answering her
module?
In the problem beatrize started in 8:30 and finished at
9:25 a.m. How long did she spend answering her
module?
So the given is;
Time end: 9: 25
Time start: 8: 30
Before we will answer the problem, first understand
what is asked th problem?
What are the given?
Sir! Beatrize's time spent answering modules
in Mathematics 4.
What operation will you use?
Sir! The time ended: 9: 25
What is the number sentence? time started: 8:30
Now we will solve the problem. Sir! Subtraction
9 : 25 8 : 60 8 : 85
- 8 : 30 + 25 - 8: 30 Sir! 9:25 - 8:30 = N
N = 8: 85 = 55 minutes.
The Answer is; beatrize spent 55 minutes to answer the
module in Mathematics 4.
Did you get it..
D. Generalization
Did you understand our topic for today?
Yes Sir!
Very Good!
Now. What are the topic that I discuss for today?
Very Good..
What are the meaning of "elapsed time"? Yes Sir!
Sir the topic that you are discuss for today is
“Elapsed Time”
Very Good! Sir! The elapsed time identifies how long you
have been doing an activity like reading,
cooking, browsing the internet, cleaning,
etc.
E. Application/Valuing
What are the importance of elapsed time in reel life?
Very Good..
Let's give all a five claps.
(1'2'3'4'5)
(All of pupils answer the question.)
IV. Evaluation
Determine the time difference. Round off to the nearest tens of minutes and then estate the elapsed
time?
V.Assiangment
Read and solve each problem.
1. Mother went to a grocery store to buy some necessities. She entered the store at 7:45 a.m. Because
there were many customers in the store, she went out at 9:36 a.m. How long did it take her in the
grocery store?
