Hadith 1 – from Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī
The Messenger of Allah said:
“Allah says: ‘every deed of the son of Adam is for him,
except for fasting, which is for Me, and I will reward him
for it.’ Fasting is a shield. So on a day when anyone of you is
fasting, then he should neither indulge in obscene language
nor should he raise his voice. If anyone insults him or
argues with him, then he should say: ‘I am fasting.’ By Him
in Whose Hand the soul of Muḥammad is, the breath of
the fasting person is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of
musk. The one who fasts, experiences two joys: he feels joy
when he breaks the fast; and he is joyful by virtue of his fast
when he meets his Master.”

Hadith 22 – from Musnad al-Bazzār
Jābir ibn Samurah h related:
“The Prophet ascended the pulpit and said: ‘Āmīn, āmīn,
āmīn.’ When he descended, he was questioned regarding
this. He replied: ‘Jibrīl came to me and said: “Unfortunate
is that person who reaches Ramaḍān, but he does not at-
tain forgiveness from Allah; say ‘Āmīn’, so I said ‘Āmīn.’ Un-
fortunate is that person by whom you are mentioned, but
he does not send salutations upon you; say ‘Āmīn’, so I said
‘Āmīn.’ Unfortunate is that person who has both parents –
or one of them –, but does not attain their forgiveness or
enters Paradise because of them; say ‘Āmīn’, so I said ‘Āmīn.’

drink until the white thread appears to you, distinct from
the black thread). I took string, one black and the other
white, and kept them under my pillow. When I stood up for
the night prayer I could not distinguish between the white
and the black thread. When I woke the next morning, I
went to the Messenger of Allah and informed him what
transpired. He laughed and explained to me:
‘Your pillow is wide. That (verse) means the darkness of
the night and the whiteness of the dawn.’”
