4.1 Nitty-gritty of how to be on the safe side
4.1.1 The personnel who install the escalator with crane and hoisting device shall be
qualified with safety operation permit issued and approved by relative governmental
authorities, and the operation of hoisting and moving with a crane shall be strictly
inspected by relative codes and regulations.
4.1 2 If something has come up unexpectedly during hoisting and moving, careful
analysis and appropriate solution to the problem are needed, and subsequently, the
faulty operation is kindly carried out over again.

4.1.3 The truss regarded as main load bearing component of the escalator, and the
position to which the force is exerted while moving horizontally or vertically shall be
strictly defined. It is disallowed to get any force exerted to any positions beyond the
defined position in order to protect the escalator from deformation.
4.1.4 The surface shall be flattened enough to move the truss horizontally; while
hoisting vertically, the length of the steel ropes at two hoisting positions as shown
down below shall be the same as one another in order to get the escalator hoisted
gently and smoothly.
4.2 How to move the whole truss structure properly

4.3 How to deal with the split truss structure properly
4.3.1 The front (middle) and rear parts of the truss are transported respectively into
working site (as shown in the diagram down below).
4.3.2 While getting the front half part of the escalator truss (including traction
machine installed inside) moved as required, crosstie shall be carefully put into the
bottom of the split truss exactly as shown below in the picture at right hand side to
prevent the joint pieces from deformation caused by any external force.
4.3.3 While getting the rear half part of the escalator truss moved as required, since
the centre of the gravity has been moved close to the lower end of the truss as shown
below in the picture at left hand side, therefore, according to on-site situation, the
split section can be fixed to the transporting board or putting some weight blocks
onto the flat section of rear half part of the truss.
4.4 How to put together two split trusses
4.4.1 The way the put-together can be done not only on the ground but also by being
suspended in the air, mainly depends on the site conditions.
4.4.2 The split trusses ready to put together shall be placed gently and smoothly, two
positions ready to get hoisted as mentioned in section 4.3.3 and shown in the
Diagram below the paragraph shall be used correctly to prevent from deformation.
4.4.3 While getting the split trusses transported, the joint plate and high intensity
bolts (16 bolts needed at each tie-in) that have been disconnected previously are
required to be re-installed; the physical moment (700Nm) applied to get the joint
plate and the bolts screwed tightly shall be equalized in order to ensure the label on
the joint plate to be consistent with the label on the truss (as shown in Diagram down
below).
4.4.4 Installation of tie-rod and bolt that have been disconnected at the split section

4.5 Ready to hoist

4.5.1 Hoisting and installation: the universal form of installation has been shown in
the Diagram below indicating how to install the escalator provided that floor cover
plate and suspending position are available on site. However, other forms of
installation can also be found to hoist and install the escalator truss.
4.5.2 Getting started: the support of the escalator as shown in construction layout
drawing shall be in accordance with the requirement of loading as defined in the

construction layout drawing, No.2 and No. 3 adjusting bolts shall be loosened before
getting started the connection of two split trusses, and using No. 1 and No. 4
adjusting bolts to adjust the escalator, and then the No. 2 and No. 3 adjusting bolts in
the middle section shall be screwed tightly to the steel plate.
4.6 Adjusting the connected escalator after getting the connection finished
4.6.1 Adjusting the position of the connected escalator vertically
4.6.1.1 When the hoisting of the escalator truss has been finished, checking if the
spaces between either upside or downside of the supporting angel iron and bearing
beam have been ensured to be 10mm ≤ δ ≤ 30mm, as well as, the spaces between
either upside and downside of the escalator shall be the same value as one another (as
shown in the Diagram above).
4.6.1.2 If more than 2 escalator are required to be installed on site, one of these
escalators should be regarded as a reference, after the plummet has been drawn out,
getting the rest of the escalators measured in order to get the inlet/outlet position
which is consistent with one escalator to another.
4.6.2 Adjusting the position of the connected escalator horizontally
4.6.2.1 if an escalator is installed on site, what it is only required is to ensure the

centre line between two ends of supporting angle iron to be overlapped with the
central line which have been drawn prior to the installation of the truss.
4.6.3 Adjustment of relative height and horizontal degree

4.6.3.1 Ensuring the front surface edges of upper and lower pedals to be parallel to
the decorative surfaces of floors precisely. The front surface edges of the pedals
installed at different escalators but in same floor shall be in the same plane as one
another. The front surface edges of the pedals installed at different escalators shall be
measured correctly by referring to the position line with standard height.
4.6.3.2 Horizontal adjustment in left and right directions (as shown in the Diagram
below): putting the Ruler Gradienter onto the step, and making the horizontal degree
to be no greater than 1/1000 by adjusting the adjusting bolt installed at two ends of
the escalator truss.
4.6.3.3 Horizontal adjustment in front and rear directions (as shown in the Diagram
below): based upon ensuring the height of the truss is the same as the height of the
ground that has already been decorated, putting the Ruler Gradienter onto the step,
and making the horizontal error to be no greater than 1/1000 by adjusting the
adjusting bolt installed at two ends of the escalator truss.
4.7 Installation of components at the section where the whole truss has been split
apart
4.7.1. After the escalator truss has been well adjusted, sixteen (16) high intensity bolts
shall be screwed tightly to protect from looseness.
4.7.2. Integrated guideway of main and sub wheel, sub wheel guideway, return
guideway of main wheel and emergency guideway shall be well jointed at the split
section, and checking if the working surface at the joint has been well finished to be
virtually flat.
4.7.3. All wiring connection at the split section shall be well installed as required.
4.7.4. Two traction chains shall be well connected with one another at the split
section. (Please see Section 5 in the installing instruction of escalator for details)
4.7.5. The step that has been disconnected previously now needs to be re-installed
using hand winding.
4.7.6. Installing glass gripping element at the split section
