DISMANTLE of Tower
Date issued: May 18, 2021 Date of revision: March 04, 2023
Checking the foundation setting is very important before erecting the tower in
order to ensure that all the tower members can be installed accordingly
Check the sides and the diagonal dimensions of the stumps and anchor bolts by
using a measuring tape and referring to the setting details given in the
construction drawing to ensure the entire dimensions are correctly measured
The level of the anchor bolts is determined, and the tops of all anchor bolts are
to be same level to one another. This can be done using either a transparent
hose filled with water or using a dumpy level
Finally, after the confirmation of the above checks, erection of the tower can
proceed

The steel members are sorted by size, length and thickness, if permitted by
client, ground painting with equal bands beginning and ending with red (Red &
White)
Small Tower parts will then be pre-assembled on the ground near to tower
stumps by sections, referring to the assembly drawing.
Main diagonal bracings which link the legs of the tower are pre-assembled to the
redundant members and the main horizontal members. Platform and ladder are
pre-assembled at the later stages.
9.0 METHODS
By using Crane - This is by far the most preferred way of erecting a tower erection for heavy
duty Towers like MONOPOLES of Height from 25M- 35M used in Pakistan.
By using a Gin Pole – The most commonly used method for erection of SS Tower, other than
MONOPOLES, is use of Gin Pole. If assembled vertically it is often erected by using a gin pole
system to which is the most common method being used in Tower Erection Industry in Pakistan
for Telecom Sector specially, where Gin Pole is connected to the main legs to lift the pieces up
using winch system where required.

PROCEEDURE
Depending on Site Condition and Type of Tower to be erected, one of the above two methods is
adopted for Erection of Tower.
For SS Tower of any Height, use of Gin Pole System is most commonly adopted.
First of all, Base Plates are fixed on Anchor Bolts on already completed foundation.
Fixation of base plates is the most important part during Tower Erection, which will
control Tower Alignment, Back-to-Back Distance of Tower. Once all four base plates are
fixed, there leveling is checked either by use of Auto Level or by use of Water Level. All
base plates Top must be at same level as margin of error is too less to control thereafter.
Gin Pole is fixed with use of Manual Operated Winch Machine fixed at a certain distance
apart from Tower area with any of the base plate where Tower Erection is to be started.
With use of Winch Machine, Gin Pole is Moved Horizontally from One Base Plate to the
Other and Vertically as we reach Tower Height step by step and block wise.
Once Main Legs are erected on Base Plates, Different Auxiliary members of the Towers
are fixed on Main Legs with the help of Gin Pole and Winch Machine Assembly operated
by professionals in this field only and are tightened to a certain level to hold fast the
complete assembly of first block from Ground Level.
A Separate Team of professionals keep segregating the material block wise and number
wise in order to ease out the team then working on Tower Erection.
A specialized team of Tower Erection team, having Work at heights certificates only, use
to climb on Tower as it started to gain height with all necessary safety measures and are
fully equipped with required tools which are must require to be used for Tower
Erection. Normally four team members are climbed at Tower for erection, one at each
Leg.
Gin Pole is moved up and horizontal way with respect to Tower Height block wise, one
team on ground keep assembling certain Tower Braces used for Cross Angles and other
team on ground, operating Winch Machine, use to move same parts up, as per Erection
Drawings.
This way, Tower Height is completed gradually, and then comes fixing of Tower Ladder
and platforms etc.

Once all parts are fixed, then Tightening of the Tower is checked with use of Torque
Wrench of designated value for each size of Nut and Bolt.
Before the Tower is offered for Inspection to client, one final check of completed Tower
is done by main foreman staff to see if there is any deficiency before it is offered to
client.
13.0 Painting
Upon completion of the tower revision, the painting process shall be carried out in
segments (Alternate bands of RED and WHITE with TOP & BOTTOM blocks being RED) as
per Local Authority requirement. The painting work is done from the top to the bottom
of the tower
Touch up of paint, the erectors will be assigned to conduct a thorough check on all the
members, tightening of bolts and nuts, connections before the request for
commissioning

rope shackle, Nuts and Bolts are loosened /removed and the sectional member
is carefully hoist down onto ground level for further dismantling member piece
by piece
The process repeats itself for the next tower sections in a top to bottom
sequence until all the tower members, panel sections and accessories are safely
brought down to the ground
