DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATH

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson you should be able to:
Visualize decimal numbers using model like blocks, grids, number lines and money to show
the relationship to fractions (M4NS-Iii-99);
Read and write decimal numbers through ten thousandths (M5NS-IIa-102.2); and
Solve word problems involving visualization of decimals.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Visualization of Decimals

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Students Activity

A. Motivation
Before we start what is Decimal? (It is a method of writing fractional
numbers without writing fraction having
Our topic for today is Visualization of Decimals. a numerator and denominator)

The fraction ³⁄₁₀ could be written as decimal 0.3 the period or decimal
point indicated that is a decimal point

Take a look on these numbers.

0.612 (The students will listen carefully)
Listen carefully class.

These digits after the ones denoted tenths, hundredths and thousand
and so on.

The numbers after the decimal point is called decimal numbers.

B. Lesson Proper

Let’s try to visualize Decimal numbers.

We can visualize it using blocks and grids.

Observe how the ten cubes represent the decimal numbers and
fraction.

How many box are shaded? 5

Yes! There are 5 cubes from the whole unit that was shaded in fraction
form that can be written as ⁵⁄₁₀ as you can see the denominator has 1
zero. It tells you that there is 1 digit after the decimal point so in the
decimal form it is equal to 0.5 is written as 0.5 in which 5 is the one
digit after the decimal point .

So let us have an another example

As you can see there are one whole shaded cube it represents that is a
1 whole number and number and the 2nd cube is divided into 10 but it
just a shaded cube so that is equal to 0.3 or ³⁄₁₀ let us add this 1 + 0.3 it
is equal to 1 ³⁄₁₀ in fraction form in the decimal form it is equal to 1 ³⁄₁₀
or 1.3;

So let us practice how to read decimal numbers step by step:

So after we visualize decimal numbers using blocks and let us now

place it in place value chart and learn how to read them,

The whole number of number 1 example has 1 less than so we can

write it as 0 in ones place, in the decimal part we have ⁵⁄₁₀ or 0.5 as
you observe the denominator has only 1 zero then write it in tenth
place 5.

In the number 2 we have a 1 whole number so write it 1 in ones

place, in the decimal part is ³⁄₁₀ and in the denominator has 1 zero
then write 3 in tenth place.

Grid is another way to visualize decimal numbers.

100

How many square are all?

79
Yes! There are 100 squares. This means the whole is equally divided
into 100 squares
How many shaded square are there?

Yes! There are 79 put of 100 squares are shaded in fraction form we
can write it as ⁷⁹⁄₁₀₀ as you can see the denominator has 2 zeros. It tells
you that there is 2 digit after the decimal point so in the decimal form
is 0.79.

4 out 100

It is equal to ⁴⁄₁₀₀

How many shaded square?

Yes! You can observe that there are have 4 shaded inside the box so in
the fraction form it is equal to what?

Yes it is equal to ⁴⁄₁₀₀ in fraction form and in the decimal form it is equal
to 0.04

So let us now place the decimal numbers in place value chart in the
number 1 example we have a less than 1 whole number so we can
write as zero in ones place so in the decimal part is ⁷⁹⁄₁₀₀ so in our
denominator has 2 zero so we write it tenths place is 7 and in the
hundredths place put a 9

In the umber we have an another less than 1 whole number so we can

write it as zero again in ones place, so In the decimal part is ⁴⁄₁₀₀ so
write it 0 in tenths place and in the hundredths place write a 4.

C. Enrichment
1.) 2 ²⁄₁₀ or 2.2
2.) 1 ²⁵⁄₁₀₀ or 1.25
Activity 1: Give the decimal and fraction represented by the shaded
regions in the grids and blocks.
1.)

Yes Sir
2.)
None

(It is a method of writing fractional

numbers without writing fraction having
a numerator and denominator)
D. Abstraction
(One good way to visualize decimals is by
using base 10 blocks. For instance,

suppose a large square respresents one
whole. If the square is cut into 10 strips
Any questions?
of equal size, then each of these
represents one tenth or 0.1 . Each strip
Again what is Decimal number?
can be cut into ten smaller squares to
represent hundredths.)
What is Visualization of decimals?

E. Evaluation

Complete the Table.

Fraction l Decimals Read as

1.) ¹⁶⁄₁₀₀₀
2.) 3.28
3.) Ten and twelve thousandths
F. Assignment

Solve the problem.
