PROCEDURES
A. Introduction What I need to know?
In today’s lesson, you are going to gain an understanding on dividing decimals with up to 2
decimal places. Learning to divide decimals is essential, because sometimes in our everyday life
we run into situations where you need to divide decimals. Your knowledge on the place value
and multiplying decimals which you learned from the previous lessons will surely help you
understand the lesson at hand.
Also, you are going to gain an understanding and test your ability in dividing whole
numbers with quotients in decimal form. Learning to divide whole numbers with quotients in
decimal form is just as important as any other lessons you have already taken previously for
these can be of use in our everyday life situations.
After going through this lesson, you are expected to divide decimals with up
to 2 decimal places and to divide whole numbers with quotients in decimal form.

What I know?
Directions: Choose the letter of the correct answer and write it on a separate sheet of paper.
1) What is the value of X if 2.86 ÷ 0.22 = X?
A. 13 B. 14 C. 15 D. 16
2) Find the quotient of 5.25 when divided by 3.5.
A. 1.5 B. 1.75 C. 4.7 D. 5.2
3) If you divide 1.64 by 0.04, what is the answer?
A. 65 B. 53 C. 42 D. 41
4.) If the divisor is 40 and the dividend is 30, the quotient is ___?
A. 0.75 B. 0.85 C. 7.9 D. 8.3
5.) Solve for X in the expression 20 ÷ 40 = X.
A. 0.25 B. 0.5 C. 0.60 D. 3.3
What is in?
In dividing decimals by whole number, we follow these steps:
 Place the decimal point in the quotient directly above the decimal point in the dividend.
B. Development  Divide as in the whole number
 Insert zeroes to the dividend when needed.
So, applying the steps: Find the quotient of the following. Number 1 is done for
you.
1) 56.75 ÷ 5 =

2) 34.74 ÷ 6 =
3) 6.72 ÷ 8 =
4) 16.40 ÷ 8 =
5) 38.4 ÷ 12 =

What’s new?
Let us read and analyze the situation below.
Since the community quarantine started, Jenny has been making personalized
washable face masks for all her family members to save them from buying the
disposable ones. Now, she is planning to give some to her less privileged neighbors,
too. To do that, Jenny needs to buy an additional 3.75 meter of black garter, which she
will cut into 0.15-meter strips to complete her sewn face masks. How many strips will
she make?

What is it?
Divide 3.75 by 0.15
Step 1: Multiply the divisor by 100 to make it a whole number.
0.15 x 100 = 15
Multiply the dividend by 100 also,
3.75 x 100 = 375
Step 2: Continue to divide until the difference is equal to zero.

Step 3: Check: Multiply the quotient and the divisor, the answer must
be equal to the dividend.

15 x 25 = 375
Therefore, the answer is 25 strips.
To divide whole numbers with decimal quotients, write a decimal point in the
dividend and a zero in the tenths place of the dividend. Divide, then write the
answer without a remainder and you can add zeros in the dividend and continue
dividing. To check your answer, multiply the quotient and the divisor. The answer
must be equal to the dividend.
C. Engagement What’s more?
A. Find the quotient. Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1.) 0.24 ÷ 0.06 = A. 3 B. 4 C. 5 D. 8
2.) 0.56 ÷ 0.08 = A. 7 B. 5 C. 4 D. 3
3.) O.88 ÷ 0.11 = A. 9 B. 8 C. 7 D. 4
4.) 25 ÷ 125 = A. 0.2 B. 0.5 C. 0.6 D. 0.9
5.) 42 ÷ 56 = A. 0.75 B. 0.85 C. 0.88 D. 0.95

What I can do?

Directions: Solve the following word problems. Write your answers in complete solution.
1) A store owner has 7.11 lbs. of powdered milk. If she puts the candies into 9 jars, how much
candies will each jar contain?
2) What is the average speed in miles per hour of a car that travels 956.4 miles in 15.9 hours?
Round off your answer to the nearest tenth.
3) Mother bought 5 meters of lace. She wants to cut it into 20 pieces. How
long is each piece?
What other enrichment activities can I engage in? (Additional Activities)
Number Puzzle Involving Decimals
Directions: Think of whole numbers and/or decimals with 1 or 2 decimal places that will
complete the equations in the box. Find the quotient. Round your answer to the nearest tenths if
necessary. The boxes with the yellow color are the ones you need to answer. Copy this activity in
your Math notebook.

D. Assimilation What I have learned?

A. How do we divide a decimal with up to 2 decimal places?
 First, make both the divisor and dividend a whole number by multiplying it by 100 or
by simply moving the decimal points to 2 decimal places to the right.
 Then, divide just like how to divide whole numbers.
 Place the decimal point in the quotient directly above the decimal point in the
dividend.
But if the divisor has only 1 decimal place,
 First, multiply both the divisor and dividend by 10 or simply move the decimal points
to 1 decimal place to the right.
 Then, divide just like dividing whole numbers.
 Place the decimal point in the quotient directly above the decimal point in the
dividend.
State your observations in the process of dividing decimals with up to 2 decimal
places. Are there any differences and similarities with dividing decimals having 1
decimal place only? What are those?
B. How do we divide whole numbers with decimal quotients?
✓ First, put a decimal point in the dividend and a zero in the tenths place of the
dividend.
✓ Then, divide. Continue dividing until the difference is equal to zero.
✓ Lastly, check your answer by multiplying the quotient and the divisor.
✓ The answer must be equal to the dividend.
What have you observed in the process of dividing whole numbers with quotients in
decimal form? List down your observations in dividing decimals with up to 2 decimal
places and those decimals having 1 decimal place only?
