LESSON 1: Number and Number Sense
At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:
 divide 3-to-4-digit numbers by 1-to-2-digit
numbers without and with remainder

INTRODUCTION
DIVISION
This module is about division of 3–4-digit numbers by 1–2-digit numbers
with and without remainder. Division is splitting into equal parts or group. We
use the symbol ÷ or / to mean divide. Let us know more about them by reading
and understanding this module. Plus! There are exciting challenges you will be
able to experience.
Division is a method of distributing group of things into equal parts. It is
one of the four basic operations of arithmetic, which gives a fair result of sharing.
The division is an operation inverse of multiplication.

What’s New

Dividend- The dividend is the number that is being divided in the division
process.
Divisor- The number by which dividend is being divided by is called divisor.
Quotient- A quotient is a result obtained in the division process.
Remainder- Is a portion of the dividend that is left over after division.

How to do Division?

Study this example:

Mang Danny gathered 432 eggs one morning. He needs to put them in trays
that can hold 12 eggs in each tray. How many trays did Mang Danny use?

 What nutrients can we get from eggs?

 What is asked in the problem? What operation are we going to use?
LESSON PROPER

DISCUSSION 1

INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY 1

Find the quotient. Activity #1

We can say that the process on division shall always follow the 5 steps
namely Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring down and Repeat.

Activity #3

To divide 3- to 4- digit numbers by 1- to 2- digit numbers without or with

remainder, the following
steps will be followed:
a) Decide where to place the first digit in the quotient.
b) Divide the thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.
c) Multiply, subtract, compare and bring down until all digits are
used.
d) Write the remainder in the quotient, if any.
ASSESSMENT

A. Read and solve.

1. If you divide 4125 to 29, what is the quotient?
2. What is the reminder if you divide 786 to 6?
3. If you divide 4832 to 7, what is the quotient?
4. If you divide 968 to 4, what is the remainder?
5. What is the quotient if you divide 804 to 6?

B. Analyze the following questions. Encircle the letter of the correct answer.

1. I am the result obtained in the division process?

A. Dividend B. Divisor C. Quotient D. Remainder

2. I am the portion in the dividend that is left over after division?

A. Dividend B. Divisor C. Quotient D. Remainder

3. Meagan used 180 beads for making 6 bracelets. How many beads were used
for each bracelet?

A. 30 beads B. 40 beads C. 20 beads D. 50 beads

4. Mr. Pacio receives PhP 2 625 for 25 hours of tutorial service. How much does
he charge his students per hour?

A. 100 B. 105 C. 110 D. 115

5. Mylene received PhP 3456 for working 8 days in a flower shop. How much
she paid per day?

A. 431 B. 433 C. 432 D. 434

LESSON 2: Number and Number Sense

At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:
 divide mentally 2- to 3-digit numbers by 1-
digit numbers without remainder using
appropriate strategies.

INTRODUCTION
Dividing mentally strategies will help children develop higher order
thinking, reasoning, critiquing, and making sense of number and number
operations. Mental mathematics will not only serve students well in school but
outside of the classroom as well.

What’s New

Michelle and her 3 friends picked 48 mangoes in an orchard. They divided the
mangoes equally among themselves. How many mangoes did each of them
receive?

What is asked in the problem?

- The number of mangoes can each of them receive.
What operation are you going to used?
That’s right, its division. Can you divide this mentally? 48 ÷ 4 = N

A. Express 48 ÷ 4 as fraction
B. Think of 48 as 4 tens and 8 ones 40 + 8

C. Divide 40 + 8 +
= 10 + 2
therefore, they will receive 12 mangoes each

INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY 1

A. Find the missing number.

Activity #2
Divide each number mentally.

Number Sentence Quotient

1. 63 ÷ 3 =
2. 75 ÷ 5 =
3. 24 ÷ 2 =
4. 85 ÷ 5 =
5. 93 ÷ 3 =

9. 424 ÷ 2 =
10. 125 ÷ 5 =
Activity #3

A. Divide each number below mentally and find the answer

in the basket of apples at the right.

To divide 2-to 3- digit numbers by 1 –digit numbers

mentally:
a. Mentally set the division sentence in fraction form.
b. Rename the dividend in fraction form.
c. Divide the renamed dividend individually by the divisor.
