4 History of KR Group KR Group, Bangladesh pioneering Ship Recycling Yard is based in


Chittagong. KR Group’s business encompasses of KR Steel, KR Ship Recycling Yard, KR Food
Industries Ltd, KR Flexi Pack Ltd. and KR Steel Structure. All these business units generate
synergies leading to the ultimate benefit on the business. Today, with over three decades in the
business largely known for risks and variables, KR Group has established a legacy of high
standards in the “Ship Recycling” industry pan Asia. KR Ship Breaker has made a benchmark in
industrial sector in Bangladesh specially in Chittagong. Established in early 1980s, KR Group
has expeditiously emerged as a clear leader in the industry on the quantifiable as well as its
scale of expertise and experience on sustainable and strategic growth in the ship recycling
industry. With KR Ship Recycling Yard, the group started its ship recycling activities with a small
beginning in Sitakunda, Chittagong achieving an annual turnover of more than 200,000 Metric
Ton per annum. “Ship Recycling” is a challenging industry with numerous variables and risks
involved like complex processes due to structural complicity, environmental impact, safety and
other health issues concerns. KR Group has demonstrated its commitment towards its workers
and to the environment as dominant, with an excellent record for worker safety and
environmental protection, abiding to the stringent yet essential national and international

Activities and Nature of operations The company set up with modern and fully integrated high-
class packaging facilities. It is fully equipped technically & prepared to meet the exacting and

KR Flexi Pack Limited: KR Flexi pack Ltd. offer a full basket of high class printing and pack

knowledge centres for the industry. Each sub sector association has limited knowledge of the
international packaging requirements. They do not run regular training and capacity building
seminars for their members and the user industries. In terms of expertise in the country,
Bangladesh suffers from the lack of technical expertise and skills. When ITC started the audit,
no qualified packaging expert was available in country. This has made the conduct of an

centre facilities, making independent quality controls and packaging certification impossible in
