ASSIGNMENT; SEVEN STEP WISE MODEL

1. Gather the facts

The relevant facts in the case are follows;
 The victim is a first-year female resident
 She was being drugged, detained and rape by a student
 Rebecca becomes distraught and withdrawn
 She is clearly traumatized while sharing her story
 The victim emphasizes the desire of confidentiality
 The victim refuses to tell who is the assailant
 She’s the only one who knows the identity of the rapist
 The police had the details of the assault but they had no clues to aid in their
investigation
 The only thing you know is the individual resides in the building

2. Determine the ethical issues

 The competing interest in this case are those of the resident assistant knowing
that the assailant is within the resident building and the victims emphasizing her
confidentiality. The resident assistant is torn in a difficult situation where she
knows something that might help the investigation vs. the victim wants to remain
confidential about the assailant.

3. Determine what principles have a bearing on the case

 Two moral principles that speak to this case come out of the way in which the
ethical issue stated. This case revolves around a conflict of rights, a conflict of
telling the police the information you have to help the investigation. Thus, two
principles are paramount.
First is the widely recognized principle that a person has the right to keep their
information confidential especially if the information could use and cause her
harm. But the second principle comes into the resident assistant telling the police
about the assailant information which the victim told you not to tell others.

4. List the alternatives

 One of the alternatives is to persuade the victim to tell the identity of the assailant
to the police. This alternative comes out in telling the police the information you
know about the suspect.
 A second alternative is to let her decide to whether she tell the identity or not,
sustaining the victims request for confidentiality and taking the confidentiality
principle.
 However, there are other alternatives for example, you just tell the police that
start investigating in our residence since the victim is from there.
5. Compare the alternatives with the principle
 In many cases, the principles resolve the case. Depending on how one assesses
the relative weight of the principles, which may be the case here. In fact, it may
be that the alternative of persuading the victim to tell the identity of the assailant
to the police.
6. Consider the consequence
 In consequence of persuading the victim to tell the identity of the assailant is that
the police will be able to arrest the suspect immediately and cannot commit
another crime.
 Well, the case will not possibly resolve because they don’t have any idea of who
the suspect is and it will definitely give a hard time for the police and the victim
will also having a hard time moving on with the trauma she had.
 Telling the police about the information you have will make easier for the police to
identify the suspect.
 In general, the victim’s rights are being honored and at the same time you able to
help the police identify the suspect.
7. Make a decision
 As my decision, I will persuade her telling the identification of the assailant to the
police and if ever she do not want to tell, I will secretly tell the police the
information I have to be able to caught the suspect and the victim will no longer
think about the trauma she had and for her to be able to continue chasing her
dreams. It is the best thing to do not just for her but for all the women who are
within the building. To protect them from bad people and to have a safe
environment.
