Apparatus/MaterialRequired
" A Meter bridge
" ALeclanche cell(Battery Eliminator)
"A Galvanometer
" A Resistance box
" A Jockey
" Two Resistance coils/wires
"A Set square
"Sand Paper
" Connecting wires.

Theory
(0 The resistan ce (r) of a resistance wire or coil is given byr= (100-I)/L<R.

Where Ris the resistance from the resistance box in the left gap and Lis
the length of the Meter bridge wire from zero end up to balance point.

(i) Whenri and r2 are connected in parallel then their combined resistance
is given by

Rp = rir2r1+r2.

Parallel Combination of Resistances

Procedure
1. Mark the two resistan ce coils as r and r.
2. To findrË and r process same way as in experiment 2 (if rË and r2
unknown)
3. Connect the two coils r, and r, in parallel as shown in figure in the
right gap of Meter bridge and find the resistance of this
combin ation, Take at least three sets of observations.
4. Record your observations.

Calculations
Calculations for verification of lawS rË and rz in parallel:

" The Experimental value of Rp = 0.36 ohm.

" The Theoretical value of Rp= (rr2)t1+r2 =
(0.693x 1.729)/(0.693+1.729) = 0.4667 ohm.
" Experimental Error (Difference if any) = [(0.36-0.4667)/0.36x 100)] =
29.6%.

Result
Within limits of Experimental Error, Experimental and Theoretical values of
Rp are same, Hence, low of resistan ces in parallel are verified.

Precautions
" The Connection should be neat, clean and tight.
" All the plugs in the resistance box should be tight.
" The wire should not makea loop.
" The key should be insert only while taking observations.
" Check source of error.
