Lesson Plan for Data Presentation

Objectives
At the end of the period, students are expected to:

 Comprehensive understanding of data presentation concepts, including bit, word, data

types, radix presentation of numbers, binary operations, and the conversion between
number bases.
 Describe proficiently apply binary addition and subtraction operations and accurately
convert integers and fractions from decimal to binary, octal, and hexadecimal.
 Analyze the practical applications of data presentation, exhibit effective teamwork during
group activities, and approach problem-solving with a positive attitude in the context of
binary operations and number base conversions.

Content Standard

 The learners know the significant of Data Presentation in Computer Programming.

Subject Matter
Topic: Data Presentation

Subtopic: Binary

Deference: Third Year College

Materials: Multimedia Presentation, White board, and Internet access

Duration: 1 hour and 30 mins.

Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities

 Organization
 Prayer
 Checking Attendance
 Recall / Motivation – Ice Breaker (Nestle Wellness)
B. Procedure

Activity

 Activate prior knowledge through a discussion on students' familiarity with

data presentation and number bases.
 Introduce new concepts with a multimedia presentation, covering bit, word,
data types, radix presentation of numbers, binary numbers, binary addition,
binary subtraction, and conversion between number bases.

Topics to Discover:

 Bits and Words: Explore the basic units of digital information and how they
are grouped into words.
 Data Types: Understand the different types of data representations in
computing.
 Radix Presentation of Numbers: Learn how numbers are expressed in
different bases (radices).
 Binary Numbers: Dive into the binary system, its significance, and its
applications.
 Binary Addition and Subtraction: Master the essential operations in binary
arithmetic.
 Conversion Between Number Bases: Discover the process of converting
numbers from one base to another.
 Converting Integers and Fractions: Explore the steps involved in converting
decimal integers and fractions to binary, octal, and hexadecimal.
 Hexadecimal Numbers: Understand the hexadecimal system and its
advantages in digital representation.
 Binary-Coded Decimal (BCD): Learn about BCD and its role in digital
computation.

Analysis

 Explore the properties of binary numbers through a guided class discussion.

 Emphasize the significance of 0s and 1s in the binary system.
 Demonstrate binary addition and subtraction on the whiteboard.
 Apply knowledge through group activities, solving problems and presenting
solutions.

Abstraction

 Analyze the step-by-step process of converting integers from decimal to

binary, octal, and hexadecimal.
 Discuss the logic behind the conversion of fractions from decimal to other
bases, encouraging deeper understanding.
 Engage in hands-on practice by solving exercises on converting integers and
fractions between bases, emphasizing problem-solving skills.

Application

 Witness the conversion process of decimal numbers to binary, octal, and

hexadecimal through an interactive session.
 Emphasize the significance of binary-coded decimal (BCD) by discussing its
applications and advantages.
 Apply learning through a practical exercise: solve problems involving
converting decimal numbers to binary, octal, hexadecimal, and binary-coded
decimal, encouraging real-world application and reinforcing analytical skills.

Assessment /Evaluation

 Evaluate participation in class discussions, contributions to group activities,

and the accuracy of solutions during practical exercises.
 Analyze the thought process and approach taken by students during
problem-solving activities.
