From Urdu into English (10 marks)

 The difference between TRANSLATION and INTERPRETATION.

o Interpretation means taking the gist of the meaning of the speaker’s
message in another language and presenting it in one’s own words in
the target language.
o Example: interpreters who help world leaders to communicate with
leaders from countries speaking other languages.
o You may also have noticed that the leader may give a long statement
which the interpreter puts in very few words, or vice versa.
o Reason? The difference of SYNTAX of both languages.

 Word-by-word Translation
o Each and everything mentioned in one language is conveyed in the
target language.
o The translator is now allowed to use own words.
o Translator is also not allowed to comment or provide own opinion on
the given sentence.
o The target language must follow the tense of the host language. No
change of tense is allowed.
