ASSIGNMENT ON CYBERPSYCHOLOGY

Cyber psychology assignment Questions:

1. What is cyberpsychology and what is its relevance in present day?

Ans:
Cyberpsychology is the field of study pertaining to the way people interact
through computers or digital devices and the emotional effects that usage
has on the brain. Cyberpsychology is also referred to as internet psychology or
web psychology.
It’s clear that the internet and technology have given us greater freedom,
convenience, and connectivity. But, at the same time, it’s important to be
cautious of its possible negative effects. By better understanding our
psychological weaknesses as humans interacting with technology, we can
become more aware, responsible and secure online.
Looking to improve your cybersecurity but not sure where to begin? Start 2021
the right way, by getting certified in Cyber Essentials, the UK government
scheme that covers all the fundamentals of cyber hygiene.

2. Based on your understanding, describe how technology can impact

human psychology?

Ans:

Psychological effects

Overuse or dependence on technology may have adverse psychological

effects, including:

Isolation
Technologies, such as social media, are designed to bring people
together, yet they may have the opposite effect in some cases.

A 2017study in young adults aged 19–32 years found that people with higher
social media use were more than three times as likely to feel socially isolated
than those who did not use social media as often.

Finding ways to reduce social media use, such as setting time limits for
social apps, may help reduce feelings of isolation in some people.
Depression and anxiety

The authors of a 2016 systematic reviewTrusted Source discussed the link

between social networks and mental health issues, such as depression and
anxiety.

Their research found mixed results. People who had more positive
interactions and social support on these platforms appeared to have lower levels
of depression and anxiety

However, the reverse was also true. People who perceived that they had
more negative social interactions online and who were more prone to social
comparison experienced higher levels of depression and anxiety.

So, while there does appear to be a link between social media and
mental health, a significant determining factor is the types of interactions people
feel they are having on these platforms.

3. What is FOMO? How does it get expressed in human behaviour?

Ans:

The fear of missing out (FOMO) is an emotional response to the belief that other
people are living better, more satisfying lives or that important opportunities
are being missed. FOMO often leads to feelings of unease, dissatisfaction,
depression and stress.

The fear of missing out on thrilling experiences or significant

opportunities—FOMO—is brought on by these sentiments of anxiousness.
The amygdala, a region of the brain that determines whether or not
something poses a threat to survival, is what creates FOMO. This area of the
brain interprets feeling excluded as a danger, which leads to tension and anxiety.
If a person is already extremely sensitive to environmental risks, FOMO will be
more likely to strike them. These persons include those who experience
emotional trauma in the past, battle with social anxiety, or engage in
obsessive or compulsive activities, including those associated with OCD that
has been medically diagnosed.
4. How excessive usage of gadgets and media affect eating habits? Are
there any disorders related to this?

Ans:

Unfortunately, there are associations between 'problematic internet usage'

(PIU) and an increased risk of developing eating disorders such anorexia
nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, food fixation, and loss of control
eating. PIU comprises sedentary behaviour caused by excessive use of
internet technologies, as well as unfavourable social comparisons that may
arise as a result of exposure and self-comparison to audio-visual content
on Instagram and Facebook.

Given these possible negative elements of technology usage, it is critical

that a good connection with food and technology be formed from early infancy
and adolescence in order to avoid these behaviours later in life.

Creates Unrealistic Beliefs And Expectations

Distracted Eating May Lead To Overconsumption
Ads Influence Us More Than We Might Think
May Fuel Eating Disorders

Studies show that girls tend to photoshop or use filters when posting images of
themselves on social media.8 There is also some evidence suggesting that
adolescent girls who spend more time photoshopping selfies and
manipulating their image on social media have a higher body-related and
eating concerns.9 Studies have also suggested that the use of certain
social media and photo editing applications may be associated with
increased acceptance of cosmetic surgery and lower self esteem

As much as we might like to believe we’re immune to advertising,

marketers use ads because they work. And now, with targeted ads coming
at you on social media based on your personal information, advertising is
increasingly individualized.

According to 2016 research, this can not only affect our purchasing
habits—it can even affect our self-perceptions and behaviors. Though more
research is needed on the interplay between social media ads and food choices,
it’s clear that ads are a powerful influence on behavior in general, and they
may influence us to reach for foods we wouldn't otherwise choose.
5. Describs the positive impacts of internet usage on human health and body?

Ans:

There are many reasons why people have constantly invested in technology over
the years. When this is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is the
Internet, but it goes beyond that. Manufacturing factories, for instance, are slowly
integrating robotics and replacing the overreliance on human labor. So,
technology has had a huge impact of technology on health how people and
businesses operate today.

Positive Impacts:

E-Learning

For instance, if you’ve always wanted to learn a skill or take a course offered at a
given university, you can do so without having to travel to that particular
institution. Remote learning has become quite popular, especially after the
pandemic. You can now access written content, live videos, or recorded
sessions. Basically, you can find nearly everything online, making it
convenient for learning.

Communicating Technologies

Technology has had a significant influence on the evolution of all forms of

communication, especially business-related and personal. Many new forms of
electronic communication have emerged due to technological innovations;
texting, voice calling, and video chat are all examples of modern
communicating advancements that enable medical science to reach more
remote regions where appropriate health facilities are difficult to reach.

Productivity Applications Environmental Benefits

A very useful effect of technology in our life is healthcare which goes well
beyond hospitals. Daily, individuals get the benefits of productivity
applications like fitness and journaling apps to be on track.

World Wide Web

It isn’t easy to envision a life without the world wide web, assuming its extent and
influence. Because of the internet, we were able to get through the difficult
COVID-19 period. Due to this internet, many companies were able to get through
the COVID-19 outbreak. B businesses managed from home while still meeting
their customers’ demands just because of this global technology.

Electronic Medical Documentation

Electronic Medical Documentation is a digital form of people’s health history

preserved over time. It can contain most of that person’s clinical data, such as
clinical documentation, concerns, prescription drugs, blood work, health
history, and vaccination record. This has been a real game-changer for many
medical wards since it has substituted the need for paper for regular data
storage

These effects of technology on our health help doctors assign the correct data to
patients in a more effective and speedy form, providing more complete and rapid
treatments.

One-Click Away

The major advantage of technology to every layperson is that everything

is just one click away. This is the most beneficial effect of technology in our life.
Either it is money transactions, traveling, shopping, grocery, medicine,
everything can be at your doorstep.oNow that we have gone over what are the
positive effects of technology, let’s look at the negative effects of technology on
our health.

Upgraded Lifestyle

While some technology is created for profit, the majority of it is designed for the
greater good of the people. When it comes to it, technology facilitates
daily lifestyle. Transport, daily household appliances, robotics all have
upgraded the living style of 21st-century human beings.

Social Media Platforms

Social media platforms can be a great tool if used properly. You can get the
latest updates about topics, including current affairs, fashion, food, and even new
revolutionary technologies. This technology has made it easier to earn
income for deserving people with real talents.

Smartphones
Mobile phones can be used to obtain medical records at any time and from
any location as they are available to everyone. Everyone can get all the news
and updates on the go without sitting and making time for it.

Environmental Benefits

When it comes to the question of the effect of technology in our life the
environment in the past, the answer was “pretty bad.” However, a greater
awareness of the need to protect the environment has grown during the last
decade, and technology has been one of the main sectors to come on board.

6. What are Memes and how are they affecting language and culture?

Ans:

Memes are simple, succinct and explicit in their messages, and this cultural
paradigm is a reflection of the mentality of modern society – one that
values entertainment, champions materialism, and reinforces the need felt
by people to remain relevant. Their accessibility and ability to reach a
huge audience within minutes (and within days, become part of the internet
lexicon) means that memes can also be used as propaganda tools that can
easily instil, and cement, beliefs that quickly become popular among cybernauts
(a habitual user of the internet).
memes are so popular and why most people like them so much. They
make you see the humorous side of a stressful situation, help in global
communication and cultural exchange, and lead to collective coping.
